Marmite
Marmite is a popular British savoury spread, made from yeast extract, a by-product of the beer brewing process. It is a sticky, dark brown substance, with a distinctive and powerful taste which polarises consumer opinion and leads to the well known supposition that one can either "love it or hate it".Many British citizens, upon newly arriving in Munich, ask whether or not Marmite can be purchased locally. It can. The following shops sell Marmite:
- Galeria Kaufhof - but only small jars have been seen
- Karstadt at Münchner Freiheit - near the canned tuna, oysters, etc.
- Hertie - tiny 50g jars cost €5 - i.e. a fortune
- Pomeroy and Winterbottom - 500g jars, the HUGE ones, for about €15
- Marche Saigon at Fraunhoferstraße 6 - PG Tips tea bags too
- Asian shop in Hauptbahnhof - but which particular shop, anyone know?
- Motorama Asian shop on Rosenheimer Straße
- Feinkost S22 in Haidhausen (Seeriederstr 22)
