Laim

Laim is a largely residential district of Munich located in the west of the city - to the west of Westend and to the east of Pasing.

The district is centred around Fürstenrieder Str., between Gotthardstr. to the South (forming Laimer Platz) and Landsberger Str. in the North.

This section contains the majority of well-known shops, including Tengelmann, Vinzenzmurr, Hertie, Plus and Rewe. Fast-food restaurants include Subway and McDonalds. The district library is also located here.

Fürstenrieder Str. is crossed by Agnes-Bernauer-Str. and not far from the crossroads is Laim's best-known patisserie and ice cream parlour, Detterbecks.

Nearby parks are Westpark (to the South East) and Hirschgarten (to the North East), which is also one of the biggest and nicest beer gardens in Munich.

Transport links are provided by the 19 tram, running along Agnes-Bernauer-Str. and the U5 underground which has its terminus at Laimer Platz, although there are mid-term plans to extend the line to Pasing station. The Laim S-Bahn station is at the junction of Fürstenrieder Str. and Landsberger Str. From December 2009 a new S-Bahn station Hirschgarten will cater for the eastern part of Laim.
