Karstadt is a nationwide chain of department stores founded in 1920. It is now part of the Arcandor AG group, which also owns KaDeWe and numerous other large businesses.

In Munich, the company's flagship store is the former Hertie store that stretches from Hauptbahnhof to Stachus. The company owns three stores on Kaufingerstraße: the Oberpollinger fashion house, which in October 2007 reverted to its former name, Karstadt Sport next door and Karstadt Haus am Dom, which sells household goods. There is also a Karstadt in Münchner Freiheit but all other Karstadt stores have now, confusingly, been rebranded as Hertie.
