Karlsplatz Stachus
Karlsplatz is a large square in the center of Munich. It lies half way between the Hauptbahnhof and Marienplatz (i.e. between the main station and the city center). All locals call this square "Stachus". No differentiation between aboveground and underground.On the square there is a big fountain in the summer. In the winter they install an open-air ice rink. Underground there is a shopping center.
There is a branch of Hugendubel at Karlsplatz, as well as a McDonalds. This McDonald's is number one in Europe as for the number of customers served. In 2006, due to the Soccer World Cup, it even was number one of all McDonald's restaurants worldwide.
One of Munich's top restaurants, the Königshof is located here also. It's in the 1st (or 2nd?) floor of the hotel, facing out over Karlsplatz.
