Café Frischhut (also called Café Schmalznudel, Prälat-Zistl-Straße 8 near Viktualienmarkt) is an institution. One of the few places open when the discos close. Small selection of fried / baked pastries, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc., breakfast-type fare. The sign's been used in the Süddeutsche Zeitung Schnitzeljagd. Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon. Small non-smoking section, up in the back, you have to go through the smoking sections to get there.
Café Frischhut - Prälat-Zistl-Straße 8, 80331 Munich, Germany
Saturdays: 5:00 - 17:00
Mo-Fr: 7:00 - 18:00
Serving ultra fresh Schmalznudeln, Auszogene etc. You may not know what any of their pastries look like and/or how they taste. These are old fashioned simple pastries, like Grandma used to make them. Some are fried in oil, but it would be wrong to classify them as donuts. Next time you are at the Viktualienmarkt, stop in and sample at least one item. I do this several times a month. Most of their pastries are not nearly as filling as a slice from a black forest cake.
