One-month driving ban and fine for speeding

77 posts in this topic

I live in Berlin and got also a driving ban for one month. I would like to hand over my license in person, to minimize the chance that it gets lost. Per this page https://www.bussgeldkataloge.de/bussgeldstelle-berlin/ , I should be able to submit it at this location: Magazinstraße 5, 10179 Berlin Postal . However, on google maps it says that it is permanently closed. Alternatively, this page https://www.berlin.de/polizei/aufgaben/bussgeldstelle/fahrverbot/ suggests that I can do it in any police station. Could someone confirm any of these information ?

Thanks in advance

Why not call the police and get it from the horse s mouth ?

Walked to the nearest police station, submitted my driver's license and it worked like a charm. The policemen were so nice, that I almost walked out happy from the station, but then quickly remembered that I got my license taken away with a point added to it.

I thought about your option, but please understand that sometimes German officials don't have too much patience when your German is broken. Getting there face-to-face usually yields a better outcome, but it's also not always practical (when you have to face long waiting times and/or if it's on the opposite side of the city).

Glad it was so painless.

I also understand your last point ...

In my experience, German drivers are very disciplined and follow the rules very well. But woe betide you if you make a mistake and find yourself in the wrong lane, for example.

Also very impatient at traffic lights if you don't move immediately when the light goes green. Women drivers especially!

The problem around here is cyclists riding on the pavements ( sidewalks in America). Also without lights at night.

Dame am Steuer? Das wird teuer!

Herr am Steuer? Das wird TEUERER!

Woman at the wheel: that is expensive! Man at the wheel: that is much more expensive!

..

..

I observed the traffic at junctions and found that a clear majority of drivers break the law.

Observed the driver of a bundespoilizei vehicle today committing at least two offences: running the motor unnecessarily and using a Handy.

Rubbish.

Drivers in Germany (that could be different to "German Drivers") have little regard for speed limits - they cannot bear to be behind someone doing 50 in a 50 zone etc.

Stop signs & Überholverbot are treated as optional; a continuous white line on the road seems to mean that the painters had too much paint available.

I find Germans are mostly much better with cyclists and pedestrians than UK drivers.  It is totally weird that speed trap locations are publicised in advance, so that locals know when to slow down and obey the limits.  What is that about?  And driving on L strasse and motorways can be a very different matter.

This is all true, drivers here break the law as well, but if you drive out of the country (except direction north) you might miss the ok-ish German behavior on the roads.

The one that makes me angry is when you are on the right lane then someone is coming on your left but they plan to take the next exit (if in Autobahn) or just turn right (if in the city), behind me there are no cars, so every normal human would just go behind me and do the turn they want.  But a German will be affected by their obsession with been in front and they will just overtake me even if their turn is very close and then cut me and turn making me brake.

I've said this on here before, but, I have driven a lot in Italy. Italians are notoriously crazy drivers. But I would rather crazy Italian drivers than the entitled aggressive Germans any day. The only thing worse than German drivers are Swiss drivers when they are in Germany.

This. What the fuck. Why does this happen so often. It's so fucking annoying, and so fucking weird.

Ah I wish this was just Germans. This happens in the US too, and likely in many more places.

Perhaps they could be invited to play paintball and pretend to kill each other, instead of killing people for real.

In the DDR traffic law enforcement was taken seriously, there were many fewer "accidental" deaths than in the BRD. Cars were better too, a Trabi struggles to 100 kmh.

After 1989 western conditions prevailed and many thousands of excess avoidable deaths occurred.
