Dating expat English speakers in Munich

102 posts in this topic

Ummm Americans aren't bad as rule but it's very straight forward, a bit like pre-packaged convenience food. Mc Donanlds is handy and you know exactly what you're going to get. A sit down gourmet baquet is different.

in general I'd say, German men are having a more serious sense of humour or are just extremely silly without being funny, they are affectionate, they are not very emotional but do express their emotions verbally, they are good in bed and know what to do with a woman. and mostly they dont have a fear of commitment! And German men are more open in sexual terms, I'd say. Speaking IN GENERAL.

Haven't been with a German for the last 4 years, thats scary for a German living in Germany...

If I HAD to have something with an English speaking guy it would be an Australian. Generally very blokey and easy on the eye which is what I go for rather than pining for a wedding ring and a suburban house.

I have never dated a german lady. Are there any guys bold enough to give a generalised opinion on dating german women.

@Ravski Yes but not right now. Too little time

All I'll say is that someone mentioned misunderstandings earlier in this thread. Be prepared for them. Big time.

Can I clarify myself. I meant an opinion from guys who have/are going out with German Women, not about the dating process. ;)

Well this is one area where generalisations are fine. "Dating" is so culture dependant that of course its reasonable to expect a different experience from a Korean woman, to a Bruneian woman, to a British woman, to an Italian woman.

If I were to compare German women to New Zealand women (and I dont think the cultural differences are that large or significant) I would say:

German women more traditional in their expectations regarding gender roles in romance, they might expect flowers or to have doors opened etc. New Zealand chicks get offended by that "weaker sex" bullshit.

Actually sense of humor can be an issue. I dont think German women are used to the more blunt, cruder form of New Zealand humor, but you work that out pretty quickly.

Regarding sex, nudity, their bodies etc I think german women tend to be more open minded and relaxed, but there are exceptions.

Biggest difference I find is that german women dont seem as emotional or emotionally mature, or at least have difficulties expressing their emotions. This I have noticed with all german women I have "dated". They seem to drive the relationship along logical or practical lines. Wheras kiwi women think with their hearts.

German women dress nicer and take care of themselves and tend to be more attractive than New Zealand women. For example they choose special clothes with matching shoes and handbag depending on where they are going etc. New Zealand chicks just wear their jeans and jersey everywhere.

I have found it harder to find interests in common or things we both enjoy going out and doing with german women than with kiwi chicks.

If I was wanting a hot chick to show off to my mates I would go german. If I just wanted to have a good relaxed time and a laugh and do things together that both of us enjoy, I would go for a kiwi.

And there is always exceptions to all of this of course, im just throwing in my 2c.

As with two people from different countries or even different parts of the same country-culture and language are problems that require patients, some more than others. Is that general enough? ;)

That's a good point pepper - the expat has a culture of his/her own. Hopefully, after all my years in Germany, I've soaked up the best of both the American and German cultures. Certainly, I've learned to be rather appearance conscious - especially at work, while I haven't lost my ability to roll around in the mud giggling on a sunny day. Sexually, I like both the banquet and the McDonalds versions depending on my mood. I've grown out of the ring hang-up, but still enjoy the flowers. I've kept my sense of humor and have added a lot of British flavor to it.

I'm still uncomfortable walking around nude at the Volksbad, but will sunbathe topless without a qualm.

I was reading this with envy of all you lucky people who have the opportunity to be choosy. What I usually look(ed) for in a woman was a simple yes... or even a maybe.

But on ideological and practical grounds I recommend Canadian men. Except Canuck. He's more of a pet than a man.

I'm not into men in that way but with the limited experience I have had with German women a major problem is always alcohol and the amount they consider brits drink - any more than 2 or 3 and you automatically have a drink problem. But apart from that they have been ok.

I've pretty much had it. I could pull if I could be bothered to go out but the inevitability of her being 1) already married or close enough to it, 2) insane, 3) the complete opposite of me or 4) a total psycho stalker pretty much shoots down any desire to do so.

I don't really care what country a girl is from if we click, but most of the TT people I've met so far also fall into categories 1 & 3.

I haven't given up hope just yet, but I wasn't born an optimist either.

@ellewood

erm, thanks for that...

but l would say that l do like German women, l think they are lovely.

A couple of points:

1. They are not as likely to go out and get completely drunk like my Brit / US / Oz friends

2. Very caring and loving

3. Look after themselves really well

4. Pretty stable

5. Fun to be with, maybe slightly more serious than average

6. Laugh at my jokes (well, occassionally)

Sometimes it's nice to be with someone that grew up in a different culture to your own, and then again sometimes not. Anyway, girls from home don't fancy me anyway so can't remember what going out with them is like.

But girls are girls though - if you treat someone well and have respect for them then you get the same back in return. It's easy really.

Why not just approach attractive girls in the u-bahn? Girls think its special if it comes out of the blue like that...

Actually I remember a TT thread in the past where the female posters specifically said they'd never hook up with someone who approached them on the u-bahn, that the men who did so were creepy, and that pretty much anywhere else would be better...

I am Indian, she is German. Can't get more contrasting than that. If we could get along for the last 4 years then you white vs white peeps have even a better chance.

It is all about the person and everything else is plain manusha.
