My landlady gave me this tree

As for presents, I didn't get any this year because I was bad. Or, ok, I guess I got 2 but a few more are stuck at some post office between Iceland and here.

Before and after shots. Sorry for the blur, camera was on the wrong setting.

So this is the tree as we bought it (well, minus a few branches and 3 inches around the stem at the bottom)

Then, 10 friends came over and we decorated the tree while drinking egg-nog and mulled wine.

Let us lift our glasses in memory of the two green and two pink ornaments that sadly were smashed before reaching their final destinations.

We bought a real monster this year (our living room ceiling is 260 cm, for reference):

We just set it up and released it from its net. We'll start decorating it tomorrow once it's dried and the branches have settled.

I'll probably replace the picture tomorrow with a daylight version. The combination of the ceiling light behind it and my phone flash doesn't do it justice.

Does anyone partake in the tradition of "Christbaum loben"?

Every year in our little village, it's a tradition to go from house to house, to view, praise & then sing a piss(ed) poor rendition of "O Tannenbaum" to the Christmas trees.

Upon completion of the song, the house owner rewards the revelers with a shot (or 3) of whatever schnapps or spirits they have in the house.

Everyone brings their own little cups on a string around their necks.

The group grows larger as more houses are visited!

Last year I called it a day after 6 hours & the 21st house.

Sounds a bit like the new year's tradition in the northeast of Groningen in the Netherlands: Groups of people go round the farms, and getting schnapps... just that that is in exchange for fence gates, wheel barrows and other semi-loose items held hostage
