English-speaking doctors in Nuremberg

13 posts in this topic

So, we're moving. Signed the paperwork for the new apartment over the weekend. I'm going to need a new doctor; usually not such a big deal, but since I'm pregnant, I'd like to make this a fairly smooth transition. Can anyone recommend an English-speaking OB/GYN (Frauenärzte) in Nürnberg?

Edit: I just happened across this website where you can search for Frauenärzte based on different criteria (location, language, etc.). Pretty handy for a shot in the dark, but I'd prefer a recommendation if anyone has visited a good doc in Nürnberg.

Hi there,

You can also try this English speaking lady, a friend of mine went to her whilst pregnant with both of her children, she is based in Herzo.

Dr. Karin Tetzel

Steinweg 8

91074

Herzogenaurach

Tel: 09132 78 11 11

Fax: 09132 78 11 32

...or you could contact this doctor (who is more of a general doctor), based in Nürnberg for a recommendation from him. He is also my doctor (as I live in Nürnberg) and he speaks good English.

Dr. Schumacher

Müllnerstrasse 29

90429

Nürnberg

Tel:0911 288884

Hope the above helps! :)

Dear TT,

I would like to find a Doctor in the southern Nürnberg area. Can anyone recommend one?

More specifically, I am looking for a Doctor that can look at a bump on my knee that I belive is a cyst, it is starting to cause me some discomfort and I would like to have it removed. Is this something that I see a Doctor about first for a referral or do I just go to the hospital? Need some input as to how the healthcare in Germany operates. If I were back in the States, I would go see my doctor first and from there I would be sent to the hospital.

Thanks in advance,

Hi There,

I was the original poster way back when and did find out that, yes, most (but certainly not all) doctors speak English. So, best advice is to get a phone book or search the many online directories sorted by zip code and start calling around. Say to whomever answers the phone; "Does Dr. XXX speak English?" If there's an answer in German or silence on the line, call the next one. I'd say 90 percent of the doctors I've called blindly or from recommendations do speak English well enough.

Here's one of the online directories I've used: http://branchenbuch.meinestadt.de/nuernber...328-96322-71660

Hi there

I go to an English speaking Doctor, who is also a good Doctor called Dr Kessler. He is on Bucher Straße. You can get the number 9 tram and get off at Juvenille Straße. His receptionists do not speak very good English, if at all though. Hope this is helpful. Here in Germany you can go to any doctor you want in any city. I guess the thing you want to know is...are there any good doctor's!

Oh good I live on Bucher Strasse, so that makes makes it easy for the Int Med doc!

But does anyone know a good English speaking GYN?

And lastly, a dental implantologist?

Thanks. Slowly sorting out life in Germany.

Dr Gitschner (x2)on Königstraße 33-37 both speak English, they're really nice. I had the same problem finding one until I went into a pharmacy and asked 'Where can i find an English-speaking doctor?' Don't know why I didn't think of it before, actually!

Dr. Peter Hauser at the Sulzbacher Strasse and his receiptionist, both speak very good English. One can take Tram 8 to directly reach there.

Also, Dr. Norman Thom in city center at Brunnengasse speaks perfect English. I chatted with him and he told me that he has spent about two years in Britain. So he's a good bet.

Doctor search engine. You'll need a very little bit of German though, at least the name of the specialization and the fields in the search form.

You can filter by language, location etc.

What I've noticed is - if the doctor is listed as speaking XYZ, he certainly does. If he's not listed, still might.
