Applying for a work permit while on a fiancee visa

3 posts in this topic

Hi there,

I am a non EU national who will be obtaining a family reunion visa (category D). This visa allows me to enter and remain in Germany for a 90 day period until I get married.

While I have been here, I have been offered a job. Is it possible for me to apply for a work permit now before the marriage takes place or will I only be able to do so upon legally getting married?

Any help is most appreciated.

I think you need to register first - residency...and if you have an employment contract even better. But others here will have to verify instead of me. I'm not sure.

Thanks for your feedback.

Strangely enough I have not been able to get a concrete response from both the Embassy or the KVR on this situation. The Embassy feels that my visa is purely to get married and all privileges ie residency and work permit will only be issued upon the marriage but they are not sure about this. As no one else has responded to this post, it must be quite a rare situation.

Anyway, I have returned to Asia to obtain the visa and will approach the KVR once again upon my return to clarify my situation. My only hope is that the employer will wait for the long and tedious process of marriage to be over and will still want me. But perhaps that is asking for too much! :(

Will post how things turned out when I have more to report.
