How to recover deleted files on an Apple Mac

7 posts in this topic

Somehow all 5000 of my photos got deleted from my laptop and am totally freaking out! Is there software that can help recover deleted items even after the trash has been emptied? I talked with a friend in the US and he says that I should get Norton SystemWorks 3.0 and I will be able to recover anything that has been recently deleted. I called Apple, they haven no clue. I called some places in the states that should carry this product, but have had no luck. Amazon.com doesn’t have it in stock. Does it even work? Anyone have any suggestions?

$60 USD at Amazon.com

PS: STOP using your NB until you can get the recovery Software installed (On a separate drive than where your pix were).

Failure to do this can possibily make your pix totally unrecoverable.

This seems to be a tool you could use. I found it via heise.de

They say " The DEMO version of Recover Data for Mac allows you to view lost data. We strongly recommend you to Try using DEMO Version of the software before purchasing the FULL Version of Recover Data for Mac."

It is kind of expensive though (US$129) and you seem to have to use a Windows computer from which you access the Mac.

And yes, stop using the Mac. Whenever you use it, it will write new data on empty spots on your harddrive. The physical spots where your pictures were stored are now empty, so new data may be written over it.

FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING: STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER NOW

1) Find a different Mac

2) Get a Mac Undelete utility (use Google for this) or versiontracker.com

3) Install the undelete utility on the other mac

4) take your latptop to the new mac, plug both firewire ports together

5) Hold the "T" key on your laptop during startup

6) Your laptop now functions like an external firewire hard drive, and can use the undelete utility

If that is not an option, I think Norton has the ability to boot from the CD, this is fine too.

Find a recovery specialist if the data isn't worth that much then you can try recovery yourself but I'd get a bit level copy or image of the drive to maximize success

I do not know whether it is proper to share my experiences with you guys here. In fact, about one week ago, my  hard drive got formatted since it was dropped and corrupted and all my files and folders inside were wiped and lost. I nearly drove crazy since many commercial documents were still lost. But, after searching and trying a series of free data recovery software out there, I did have rescued most of my files back. So, you may also give such free data recovery tools some chances, like:

Disk Drill
https://www.cleverfiles.com/mac-file-recovery.html  -100% free and able to scan device with fast speed

iCare Data Recovery Free-100% freeware and able to scan and recover lost data from HHD and SSD

PhotoRec- free, but, a little bit tricky for me to operate

PC Inspector Recovery- free

Some of them could be proper for your case and recover your  files.

Hope my words could help you anyway.
