Chocolate rum truffle cake from Alois Dallmayr

27 posts in this topic

Probably the best chocolate cake in all of Munich is the chocolate rum truffle cake sold at Allois Dallmayr on Marienhof.

It consists of a thin base of pastry, covered by two thin layers of chocolate sponge with fudge in between, all topped with a final deep layer of more chocolate fudge.

This is possibly the richest cake you'll ever eat. Buy one on a Friday evening and you won't need to eat anything else all weekend. A bargain for just €13.50.

During advent the cakes are offered with a marzipan angel on top. I'd choose without the angel though. They cost an extra €7, they don't taste that great, and they're totally gay anyway.

The catalogue number is 6629. This particular cake is not available via the Dallmayr online shop though. So don't confuse it with the Prinzregenten Torte (6627) that you see there.

This has been a public service announcement, not a sponsored product placement.

A Belgian friend of mine swears by this cake too, however when I saw it, I assumed it was a mousse torte rather than a cake. Is that buttercream fudge then, or is it really mousse on top?

You mean you've brought one home and haven't had a sneaky taste yet?

Either way, believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Try not to eat it all at once. I know what you're like with cakes.

Is the €14.80 for the entire cake or for a slice? Can you buy by the slice or do you have to buy an entire cake?

Yes, it is still available.

It has gotten more expensive, but it is still worth every penny :)
