Where a man might have some manners, and try to handle an embarrassing or humiliating matter in private for the sake of for both parties, it appears women like you to announce personal issues loudly in public.

What pisses me off about this forum (oh-oh, I already used the wrong words), is that it's completely unspeakable for instance to complain about rascism in Germany or to say anything negative about Germany but it's completely ok to make really off "jokes" or comments about women. That never gets criticised. If a man on this forum makes the *funny* comment that women belong in the kitchen, people just ignore it or many other equally imbecilic men would jump on the bandwagon and ad their own incredibly *witty* comments, BUT say ONCE that you think there's a lot of rascism in Germany and you have a large part of the forum telling you what an idiot you are.

 

Grinner's comments this time weren't even that bad. It's a bad combination of his comments, Ulysses' comment and general comments which have been madeon this forum recently regarding women.

This is the first and only forum I have ever joined and I am surprised by the attitudes of many men here. I thought this is an internationally thinking community of educated people who have seen a bit of the world. There seems to be an underlying conservatism here which belongs in the fifties if anywhere. The German people I have got to know show a lot more respect towards women than many of the representatives of the English speaking community do.

Yes, I find it very interesting as well, and I've asked Editor Bob why are comments like Grinner's allowed that in my opinion are insensitive and denigrate women? But ok, at the end of the day, I have to ask myself how can I be a little more compassionate, enlightened, and sensitive, to other people thoughts and feelings that I don't agree with, as this is an open forum. Also it's up to us as individuals to try to treat each other with more dignity, integrity and respect. I have to make a better effort at doing this. As some of the comments I said to Grinner were disrespectful just out of my disgust with what he said about women.

 

But it all depends on a persons sensibilities in terms of what they may find offensive or not and then you have the others folks that for a lack of a better phase are shit stirrers. These are the folks who will read the comment and take what you said totally out of context to try to use it against you to spur the negativity on.
