Tips for concert halls and venues

4 posts in this topic

I was at the Robbie Williams concert last night and I felt that I wouldn't have bought seated tickets had I known about the seating arrangement/problems at the Olympic Stadium (or any other huge venue).

I would generally avoid seated tickets at the Olympic Stadium as you are 1. generally very far from the stage and the acts look like little stick men

2. due to 1. you get worse sound quality - both late (watch the video screens and then hear the sound later!!!) and often swirly due to the wind

3. Worse view unless you are very small

Anyone else got any more tips for concert halls/theatres in the Munich area?

PS Everything improved in the evening as the wind went and the delay decreased.

Somehow I managed to miss this when it was originally posted. Anyway, here's a summary of some of the venues I've been to:

Zenith

Location: U6 Freimann

Size: Medium/Large

Bars: 4

Large venue which used to only be used by the larger bands. Since the venues in Kunstpark Ost* closed, Zenith is being used much more often. For most bands that play there nowadays, Zenith is too big. They have to curtain off half of the floorspace to make it look smaller (and when they do that there are only 3 bars).

Elser Halle

Location: Rosenheimerstr. Bus 95,96,145 Kustermannpark

Size: Medium

Bars: 2

Also a venue that has taken over some of the concerts that would previously have been held in one of the KPO venues. As a result, can get very crowded for the larger bands. The entrance/exit door leads onto a narrow corridor, so getting out afterwards can be slow unless they open the fire exits at the back.

Atomic Cafe

Location: Near the Hofbraeuhaus

Size: Small

Bars: 2

Tiny venue used by lesser known bands. Good for the intimate experience, but can be a bit claustrophobic and hot. Nice chill-out area near one of the bars.

* Colloseum, Metropolis and Babylon were great venues. Shame they've gone.

Its ok Malc, thanks for the info, but you really didn't have to - no one else follows-up on my posts. This one stood there unloved for a very long time... *sob*

What about the Moffat Halle anyone?

Muffat Halle:

Location: S-Bahn Rosenheimer Platz/Isartor. Behind the Volksbad, near the river.

Size: Medium

Bars: 1

Not a bad venue. It only has one bar, which can make it difficult to get a drink if it's a sold-out concert. On the plus-side, it has a beer garden outside and a cafe. If you go in the cafe during a concert make sure you've got your hand stamped or they'll not let you back into the main hall.
