I believe Rolf Harris was falsely accused of crimes he didn't commit. See this post. No, I don't think it was a conspiracy. It was the multiple points in common with the earlier published Savile story that first made me suspicious about the Rolf Harris case. The parallel stories (copycatting in my view) formed a minor part of the appeal.

Regarding Jimmy Savile, I think you'll find that conspiracy theorists like David Icke and his followers are very enthusiastic about the idea that Jimmy Savile and other celebs/politicians were/are child abusers and/or sex offenders. I think that should give one pause, together with the fact that during his very long life not one victim (once an adult)/parent/teacher/witness/colleague/police officer took him to court or charged him with any crime. It was only a year after his death when ITV broadcast an "exposé" featuring former pupils of an approved school claiming he had abused them (including one whose fake police letter had been part of the reason the BBC dropped a Newsnight investigation into him) that the floodgates opened and other adults came forward with claims of abuse and claims for compensation against his estate (all that money raised for charity), the NHS and the BBC. Very easy to accuse a dead person of something you don't need to prove and they can't deny and why not if one can earn thousands for doing so? Surely easier than benefit or insurance fraud. For the whole thing to have been true there needs to have been a giant, and I'd argue absurdly unlikely, conspiracy of silence by victims/parents/teachers/witnesses/colleagues/police, etc. during his life. No wonder the conspiracy theorists like it.
