It s hard to apply the theory IRL.

Maybe if you tried - to show what post you're referring to?

Does he sell unpackaged food, too? In that case he must forbid the dog. It's the law here in Germany.

Maybe he had a traumatic experience with dogs once - or he/customers of his is/are allergic.

A very dear friend of ours loves animals, but is allergic to cats and dogs now thanks to covid.

Maybe one of those reasons explains his grumpiness in that moment.

He doesn't know your dog, either - if she's housebroken, a biter, whatever.

And calling someone an arsehole (plus all your other grumpy niceties above) because you don't know the reasons isn't nice, either.

Edit: You gave a greenie to emkay's posting in "Things to ponder" regarding that matter. Live it, please.

I have settled down since😂

No unpackaged food. I can imagine a cultural background in his case. Just like in Greece.

The point is, however, it was his attitude. I was there as a customer and he didn't even say hello or thank you. He could have said " sorry, the law this or I am afraid of tiny dogs " but, no. Just dismissive. Not only of Mandy but also of me as a customer. Others say " sorry, dogs are not allowed." Ok, straight but polite message and I won't bother them again.

He was sitting behind the counter- no danger for him.

I have walked past his place a couple of times. Never seems to be anyone in there. Of course, I don't know his story- maybe he is  ill or recently bereaved etc.

But I expect friendliness as a customer. That is my business maxim - even if I'm not feeling well ( which is actually the case the past couple of weeks. And that is making me grumpy with myself.)

@john g.. Glad you’ve settled down 😉. Who knows what’s bothering someone else. If I come across rude service, I just kindly say that I really hope that their day gets better.

Kiosk place today. Just a place to buy milk, crisps, beer, ciggies, sweet stuff. Needed milk. Went in with puppy Mandy.

Grumpy old owner: " Hund? Nein."

" Komme nie wieder."

Fuck you. No wonder you are grumpy. You intolerant son of a bitch. Ten seconds of a 3,5 kilo dog worries you?

You arsehole.

The other Turkish places around here love her. They get my custom. Shame you were open when the other places weren't. I will wait next time till they open.

Maybe the guy is a Muslim.   Muslims might see dogs as impure and do not want any contact with them.  And it is Ramadan.

Definitely. Older Turk ( just like the Greeks of that generation ) and anti-dog. Fortunately, a young Turkish Muslim neighbour is quite the opposite- he loves dogs and especially Mandy. He takes her for walkies when I am tired or can't leave the office.

Definitely a generation gap.

I offered my young neighbour some strawberries the other day and he politely declined : " Ramadan." And then he picked up Mandy and hugged her.

Key here: polite and kind. And I respect his Ramadam.

Funnily enough, at another kiosk today, a young Turk (?) got frightened when he saw Mandy, all tiny 3 and a half kilos of her.

Me: hast Du Angst? Die ist klein und lieb."

His mate made a comment: " he is just pretending to be afraid!)😟😀

It is not a generational thing, it is about how religious you are.

I beg to disagree. My neighbour is an example.

Of course., if a fanatical this or that- que faire?

Many Greeks subscribe to the Orthodox Church there but attitudes towards dogs depend on  their empathy towards dogs. And the younger generation are somewhat better inclined. Influence of social media?

Till  ten years ago or so, you would hardly see a Greek going Gasse with  their dog and only recently have dog food adverts appeared on Greek TV.

Dogs are clearly forbidden as pets in Islam. They are supposed to be kept only if you need them for working, hunting or guarding.  You are supposed to specially avoid their nose and their saliva.  If you have a dog as a pet the number of bad points you receive are clearly defined.  Some might believe that just the presence of a dog during praying invalidates the prayers and even might invalidate the cleansing ritual needed before praying.

But I guess you know better.

Surely, a sign such as the one below on the kiosk door would solve the problem for everybody.

Wir müssen draussen Bleiben als Alu-Verbund 3mm oder Aufkleber

Oh no, 144 new Autobahns!😕

Or rather "speedy planning" of 144 new stretches of Autobahn, could just mean even more burocracy and prevarication.

I think this could be a tipping point.

An insignificant thing in the grand scheme of life but the pending closure of one of my top 5 favourite websites makes me unhappy.

https://www.dpreview.com has been a leading light in the world of digital photography for the last 25 years and contains an unfathomable amount of historical information, many useful tools and millions of forum interactions in a lively community.

The website was bought from the original owner by Amazon in 2007. Amazon have now decided, without explanation, it is to be turned off on April 10th. A sale is not being considered. :(

Don't panic!

The A20 across Schleswig Holstein has been 20 years in the planning. The bats (!) around Segeberg have all but stopped the tarmac.

Don't hold your breath!!

Dark skies, pouring rain - ducks are swimming on our grass runway.

Bad start to this year's flying season - chance to do some more maintenance work...

The weather!

The 4 days after Easter Monday are usually our "Frühjahrsfliegen".  The Tuesday & Wednesday were cancelled due to the forecast for rain (which came).

Now tomorrow Thursday has been cancelled due to strong gusty South-Westerly winds (which means cross-wind on our runway) and probable rain.

Friday should be flyable but one day out of four is poor harvest for those who took vacation for these 4 days.

(Currently heavy rain on the windows).

Kid 1 just came home with a 2nd 5 in a German Klassenarbeit. After a really good start at gymnasium, his notes are down this year and on a downward trajectory (he's even managing not to get 1s in English). Two of his friends have already been told they have to go to Realschule next year, and I think partly he quite fancies joining them. I wouldn't have a problem with him doing that if there was a genuine problem with his academic ability overall, but it is far more to do with his poor work ethic and lack of concentration/focus in tests (both points being a hangover from Waldorf days sadly).

We have previously asked whether he should have foerderunterricht for German, and were told it wasn't necessary. Instead he has had private lessons from an older child at school, but whilst he does well in those one-on-one lessons, and when practising at home, it all goes to pot in the tests.

My children's teachers admitted giving my kids lower marks "because they should do better".  So do not fret about English, he will end up with a 1 later on.  And btw Realschule can be brilliant. He can still progress to Abi later.   I found the teachers much better than the Abi ones of my other children. But if he is struggling with German I would suggest a professional teacher at least for a bit, and then see what happens.

Thanks for that @snowingagain. I tend to agree with the English thing, so that doesn't really worry me, but the thing with German is tougher, as that is not easy for him (unlike his younger brother, who is "more" German). I don't get the underperformance in tests (he tends to panic), and lack of work ethic (tried bribes and various punishments,...a bit like a despotic ruler I suppose, but I have also tried talking/explaining). To be honest, I'm just at a bit of a loss, and unsure how to help him. I've got a chat with his German teacher tomorrow. The Realschule in our nearest town is actually pretty good, but I am reluctant for him to change if the main reason is that he thinks he can coast / mess around with friends.
