I'm not a tequila fan but I tried one in Seattle years back with salt on the rim. go and check out LATOC (Google) and read up on permaculture and Transition towns. Hell CA must be at the leading edge of the alt movement!

Tequila is an acquired taste... which can be acquired more quickly by drinking the good stuff (aged), called añejo. I've got reposado on hand, which is middle-range. This is the brand you want to try... I know the family.
