We love Gentleman Jack as well and will watch the Season 2 finale tomorrow (recorded from last weekend).  I hope there will be more seasons to this period drama, as there is so much more of their story to tell.  We love it when the actors break through the fourth wall.

Great to see Rose Leslie again as well. Loved her stuff since Game of Thrones and the good-fight.

An elderly Irish soldier recounting his experiences of the trenches in the First World War. What a man! Lucid, energetic, humourous, humane. I salute him for his bravery ( non-soldier here and war is terrible  but others made the decisions to start that war.)

Coupling (UK) - this is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Can't believe I just heard about it recently. It's about dating and sex, centering on a group of 30-something's in London. Highly recommended.

Also, I'm not very familiar with British shows. Can anyone recommend some similar comedy series? Thanks!

I watched a documentary about Roy Orbison yesterday evening. I didn‘t know how tragic his  life was before he met his second wife who was from Bielefeld. Roy died on 06.12.1988 and 23 years later his wife died on the same day.

 RIP Roy your music lives on.

Gouda is not a protected brand like Parmegiano Reggiano. In Germany you have a lot of fake Gouda in the supermarket. It is produced in Germany. You can buy real Oude Gouda cheese. Riping process is 12-18 months. Oud means old. 
 

Old Amsterdam is not allowed to call itself Oud Amsterdam since the riping process is only 8-10 months. They speed up the process. Their marketing, however, is very smart. 
 

If you visit your daughter in A’dam, she should take you to a tasting in a cheese shop, which are not hard to find 😀. Try Beemster.

Bought some a while back having been sucked in shamelessly by the tiny windmill fridge magnet which came with it (back fell off after a few days, windmill now under the fridge until it breaks and needs replacing, I guess ) but the cheese was very tasty.

Beemster is our everyday cheese, when out of cheddar. Obviously, it's nothing like cheddar, but I agree it is a significant step up on gouda.

I drove back from the UK last week and wasn't checked at customs at all. Whilst that was good news for the small cool box of cheddar, we deliberately only carried as much as we were prepared to throw away (I also panic ate way too many pork pies driving down the M20 for the same reason). I feel I cheated myself, knowing that the entire back row of the van was pretty empty and could have been filled with a person's weight of cheddar. The bellyful of pork and pastry left me requiring a lot of coffee to keep awake for the second leg of the trip too. 

 

As for TV, just finished "Crime". Watch something happy instead.

Remember the fresh fish hack - you can bring back a single fresh fish up to something massive like 20kg, so get yourself a shark, empty it out and fill it with cheddar and pork pies, and sew it back up again. Sorted

Such a British attitude  - I feel the same when buying a ticket for the train, and then it doesn't get checked - well, that was a waste, needn't have bothered shelling out for that ticket, then.

Lately, I've watched:

Winning time: the rise of the Lakers dynasty. The show was a blast, the use of the 4th wall ingenious and the editing, by itself, deserves a watch.

Tokyo vice. To watch if you like japan or are interested in the culture. Otherwise, I advise waiting for the second season. It s been slow and the ending is a bit weak.
