Casino Royale Monaco is Munich's first private casino. It opened mid-November 2006 and is located at Dachauer Straße 17, very close to the Hauptbahnhof. The opening takes advantage of a new EU directive that allows privately-owned as well as state-owned casinos.

Entry to Casino Royale is free. Minimum age is 21 years. Make sure to bring a passport or ID card. All male guests must wear a shirt and jacket, no trainers or hats. Swap your money for chips at the reception. Then proceed to the first floor where there are 45 gambling machines, or to the games room on the second floor. A maximum of 20 Euro may be played per game. There is no obligation to play, spectators are also welcome.

According to the article in today's Abendzeitung, the casino's name was chosen a number of years ago already and was uninfluenced by the latest James Bond movie. Note that the "Monaco" part of "Casino Royale Monaco" comes from the Italian name for Munich (Monaco di Baviera).

I would spend an evening here. Could be a fun, different night out. Anyone already checked it out?

And by looking at the pix on that poor website the place looks like nothing more than an over glorified

local betting pub, not a real casino. Also interesting that the website is a .at domain (Austria) instead

of .de for Germany. Overall the entire operation looks rather poor..

I must be wired up wrong. I bloody hate casinos. I just need to walk in, look around, and it doesn't matter how drunk I am before I think "oh oh - I know who is winning and who is losing tonight".

@Darkknight - Totally agree... did they find some warehouse with leftover 70's furniture and decide "let's open a casino"?

And then to require jackets for the gents... yeah McD should start that as well since there about the same level.

Looks like a piss poor place... When I roll I go to Vegas and roll big with a suite at the Bellagio, plenty for the craps table and of course some honeys (to roll the dice, etc) B) ... don't think this will come close to that experience.

My wife and I went there last Tuesday before the easter holidays just to try it - we usually go to Bad Wiessee but we did not like the drive that night.

What should I say - I loved it! Yes, you are correct, they do not have tables, but they offer electronic Roulette (20 places, I had to wait 15 minutes to get a seat), were extremely polite (rare these days and not something we would expect from the Bad Wiessee employees). As my wife is into slot play she liked it as well, and we actually met some faces we knew from B.W. but had not seen there for a while.

I give the Casino a D (from A worst to E best) :

Plus :

very very clean, very charming setting (not if you are into supermodern casinos), free parking and very close to the main station; nice staff and well mannered patrons (I have seen some munich gambling arcades and took to run rather than play)

Minus :

only 1/3 the size of Spilebanken Bad Wiessee and no card games, and you have to pick up alcoholic drinks at the bar, they say they are not permitted by law to carry them into the gambling area, even though in the bar there are 2 slot machines; do not know if that is true or not.

Myluv wants me to add : She did not like that next to her someone won the medium Jackpot of something like 1.300 € just 3 minutes after he started to play while she had been playing for an hour or so (would have helped if she had played the jackpot machines; female logic, gentlemen, you get used to it).

We will still be going to B.W. on occasion, for I miss Blackjack, but for a round of Roulette or two and slots and a nice chat I like this place.
