New in Berlin (or new to this forum)

136 posts in this topic

If you are new in Berlin, or live in Berlin and are new to this forum, feel free to post a message here to introduce yourself to the rest of the TT community.

Note: Posting to say "send me a message" is not the way to meet people here. It's not how it works. This isn't a contacts board. Instead you need to be proactive. Browse the list of meetups and events, if you see one interesting then post that you'll attend and then go along. All the groups here are welcoming to newcomers. If you don't see an event of interest, start your own. Be bold. Post a date, time, venue, and short description of what kind of meetup it is (cinema, drinks, dinner, bowling, etc.), and that's it. People will join you.

Hi all!

A quick introduction from me too! I have been scouring this forum for some time now, so it's about time I introduce myself.

My name is Vicky and I moved to Berlin yesterday. I am half German, half English (German mother, English dad, RAF kid), so I speak both languages fluently, although my German is slightly rusty at the moment!

I lived in Germany until I was 14, and then decided to venture to the UK to do my A-levels and degree. For the past few years I have worked in PR and most recently ran a small design firm near Manchester in the UK.

Homesickness has taken over though, so I am starting again. Currently I am living with family in Spandau until I find my feet.

Would be great to keep contact with some English speaking folk, hence my registration and this post!

You can find me on facebook here - https://www.facebook.com/victoria.robinson.509

My name is Sally Grant. Along with my Australian husband Andrew and our 10 year old daughter Harriet, we're visiting Berlin fro November 22nd until December 30th.

>

> Harriet is aged 10 - quiet to begin with, but lots of fun when she feels comfortable. Harriet is learning to play the violin, attends afternoon circus classes, loves to read, is outdoorsy and is a keen tree-climber.

>

> We are interested in meeting any children of a similar age who might like to meet up and have some fun. We love excursions, book groups, hiking, tree-climbing, rock-climbing, circus activities or even just to meet up for a chat and play.

>

> We’d be thrilled if there were any activities we could join in or things we could plan together.

Hey All! :)

I am new to this forum, and just wanted to throw a shout out to everyone! I am a 24 year old female, and my fiance soon to be husband is 27. We have an almost 1 year old son, and we plan on moving to Berlin next June/July. We are looking for some places to rent for an apartment/flat/house that is close to things..i.e bus, metro, shops, and etc. We are moving based on the Freelance visa, and will be having a business over there. We are starting to learn German, and are very excited about moving! We were also curious on how pre school works over there? As well as a site to look at health insurance. Any and all info would be appreciated! We have no idea what part of Berlin to move to..like whats the cheapest, yet nice...and etc. I'm excited to hear back from you all! :)

Thanks!

Hello,

My name is Paddy, I will be moving to Berlin from Brighton in January with my German girlfriend from Weimar.

We are currently looking for a flat and have used the various forums for advice so thanks to everyone for all the useful advice that is already listed.

Quick question - I am currently applying for a number of roles, I have always been called Paddy and apply for jobs in the UK using this but I've been suggested that using Patrick might be better for applications. Does anyone here think it might have an impact at all (I understand it might give the impression of not being too professional)?

Look forward to meeting some of you in January (hope its not going to be too cold!)

Thanks

Paddy

Hi!

I am brand new to Berlin as of yesterday and my wife will be joining me in a few months! I am an engineer from the US and am looking to meeting new people and find a social life. Unfortunately I don't know much German, but I plan on fixing that ASAP. Anyways, this is my first post and I wanted to introduce myself.

Best!

Hello Toytowners,

I have ended up visiting this forum occasionally, and since you seem to have a somewhat active community here I finally made a profile of my own. I have been in Berlin for over a year now in separate intervals, and currently residing in Hohenschönhausen (Lichtenberg) "for good" with my wife and son.

I am a lad in his mid-twenties, in that point of life between youthful disregard and the responsibilities of the adult world. I am an environmental engineer by trade and a constant self-student of sorts in a variety of more humanistic topics. In my free time I involve myself in grassroots political activism and tend to gravitate towards the punk culture, while I don't define myself as such.

You can reach me by sending a personal message on this forum.

Hi! I've been living in Berlin (Kreuzberg) for just over a month now and decided to join this forum today, so figured a little introduction would be nice.

My name is Timo, I'm a 24yo guy from the Netherlands, working in a full time job. I'm a music geek, like going to concerts and festivals, also love to drink a beer every now and then pretty often. I can speak Dutch and English, and I'm trying to learn German (but that's tough when you don't have much time to take classes)

My main reason for joining the forum is to meet new people here in Berlin, as that turns out to be a lot harder than I expected! I see there are a lot of meetings being organised so I think I'll join one of them soon :)

Hallo all!

My name is Drew and I'm a 40-year old American research scientist that just moved to Berlin on Jan. 8th from Michigan with my wife Jyll and 2-year old son Luca. I have a two-year postdoctoral position at a research institute in Dahlem, which will be keeping me busy, but we're hoping to meet some other English-speaking expats in Berlin. Our interests include music, photography, food, roller derby, and family life. Feel free to message me here.

Cheers
