9 posts in this topic

HI,

Its becoming harder and harder everyday to read news online(in english).

Does anyone knows a good German (which also covers Germany and world ) daily news paper(in English) that I can subscribe here in Germany.

Thanks in advance,

Jelda

Why is it becoming harder to read the news online?

As far as I know, there's no daily English paper available from Germany. Only thing you could do is get the International Herald Tribune, the Wall Street Journal or the Financial Times delivered. These are pricey options though, and getting news online is cheaper. Learning German is also a good option, so you can read the German paper.

mmm i kiddof understand what your saying, but the gaurdian still provides most of its services free, bbc is still free, sky news is free online and over the german sat, bbc world is also on sat. and you can get the international edition of the gaurdian and the indie (both of which are printed in german but published as always in england,) in the morning (of the same day!!!) from ost or hauprbahn hof. compared to what it was like ten years ago, ahhh the romance of expats snatching at the only copes of the sunday times, that old short wave radio playing the familiar highland jig before the news of bbc world service.. dum didi dum dum - dum didi dum - dum dum dum dah di dum didi dum... :)

It definitely was phenomenal to live in an exotic land where all media was censored, then hear the familiar British voice "This...is London" hissing through the short wave!

When bin Laden started all this in November 1995 he bombed the Saudi National Guard in Riyadh. The University cable system where I lived blacked out all news. BBC World TV hit a "technical fault" for 24 hours.

All newspapers were censored too. Any bare female flesh in a newspaper was blacked out.

If you don't mind an Irish slant to your news there are these:

http://www.ireland.com (registration with cheap fee 70 a year or something)

http://www.unison.ie/irish_independent/

http://www.rte.ie - irish national broadcaster - you can download news videos and everything so you can watch/listen instead of read.

As I said - it will have an Irish slant but they cover the Uk and rest of the world reasonably well too.

Sorry, I was not specific enough, so the first AI thing was too long, so have shortened the blather. I quite like AI Christopher Hitchens on TT.

"Toytown Germany, that bloated bastion of expat self-importance, stands as a pitiful testament to the vapidity of shallow minds. Its members, a congregation of self-proclaimed experts and pseudo-intellectuals, prance around in their digital sandbox, blathering about the superficial trappings of their adopted country while blissfully ignorant of its rich tapestry of history, culture, and ideas. Like spoiled children in a candy store, they revel in their imagined cosmopolitanism, believing their mere presence on foreign soil grants them the authority to pass judgment and dispense their half-baked opinions. Yet, they remain clueless to their own intellectual laziness, unwilling to transcend their pitiful echo chamber and confront the real challenges and complexities that lie beyond their narrow vision. Toytown Germany is an intellectual wasteland, a monument to self-delusion and the triumph of shallow minds over true engagement."

Though he is evidently not encountered @PandaMunich. And of course, this is complete crap compared to the real H. Nothing like him. But anyway.
