Schokolade! I'm sure that someone probably mentioned it, but I'm not up to going through some 300+ threads!

Liebfrauenmilch -- a white wine. Translates as "dear women's milk". Cute!

Gell? no translation. Means "that's right, isn't it?"

Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher -- eggshell-right-place-to-crack-causer

I didn't mean würstchen at all, I really meant würstel. The turning around, trying to get comfortable, fluffing up the bedcovers in the bed or the straw in the nest würsteln. Darn this German spelling!

Marton, are you a Schnapsdrossel?

That is another of my favourite German words. I thought it was apt to mention it here .. hahaha.

The first time I hear it was on Wettendass. One of the bets was that someone could tell which sound belonged to which bird. He won his bet. Then Frank Elsner started whistling and asked the candidate which bird that was. The candidate answered: "Schnapsdrossel"

"Drossel" is (also)the German for "thrush".

There are some great insults along the same line as Schnapsdrossel. One is Spinatwachtel (= spinach quail), the other one is Grasdackel (= grass dachshund), a great Swabian insult :)

Seilsalat

Thats when the steel cable on our winch (for launching gliders) gets tangled - usually when the cable is being towed to the launch point & the car looses a cable - the drum keeps turning, loops of cable form, they jam & the air is filled with curses...

Unfortunately I have no pictures.

It'll be years and year before I get to read that :(

A new word for me tonight. When I asked my husband what he was watching on TV, his answer was:

"Ein Schmonzette"
