English-speaking dentists in Munich

@Carm

Dear Carm,

I think you work in a dental praxis. I have some new inlays (five or six) since half a year and I still have pain when I eat something. My dentist says this is normal. In any case, I need a second opinion from a good dentist specialised in inlays!! Could you please recommend me a dentist for this issue (at your praxis or somewhere else)?. I am private insured. I also speak German. Thank you in advance.

I have been spending a lot of time in the Dentist chair over the last few weeks

Since I hadn't been to the Dentist in nearly 30 years and had major tooth ache so got forced to go, but I had planned on going and getting a one stop solution and get the big Hollywood smile, as an emergency pit stop we ended up at

MUDr Georg Neudert

Rathausplatz 9 /1 OG

85716 Untershleißheim

tel 089 3108818

I have been back to them now more times than I care to mention, the main guy is from Czech republic, and claims not to really speak English, but in reality his English is pretty good, I have pretty much never felt any pain, and he has come in on Saturdays and Sundays to treat me while I have been working in Belgium, which shows real customer service. he is very much not into pulling teeth, he likes to preserve them and basically gives you a free ride on the work he has done on a tooth if he cant save it, so far he has had to pull one of my wisdom teeth, which took nearly 3 hours and he had to chop up into 4 bits to get out, he has done a shed load of fillings on me including root canal work and I have never felt anything, Also he has done about 40% of the work quoted by another English speaking dentist quoted at 20k and so far he has charged me roughly 2.5k

I recommend this guy

PS he also plays golf for the Czech national amateur team

I took out some extra dental insurance 3 months ago cos my dentist Dr Koty said that there was some work to do thanks to the British dentists, i pay an extra €19 a month and for that i can have white fillings for €25 instead of the normal €100 and can get a scrape and polish 3 times a year for the same price, i think it's worthwhile to get some extra as those treatments can be expensive, white fillings are €100 a filling and a scrape and polish is €100 a time. I can also get implants and instead of paying the €1000 a tooth i pay €250

Just to get the word out to my fellow expats. Just had my dental visit and it looks like Dr. Winkelsburg's office is now owned by another dentist. The office looks like it was extended and renovated. And the best part is they have a new dental hygienist who is professionally trained in the US (San Francisco?). Her name is Monica-- definitely recommend her! I used to have to take aspirin for two days after my teeth cleaning and now...what a difference!

English, Arabic, Spanish, German, Hebrew speaking dentist:

Dr Meni Saban

Hohenzollernstr. 88

80796 München

(089) 301 493

though you will not be able to speak much while he is fixing your teeth...

Thanks for the tip! Gave them a call as 1) he's just around the corner and 2) someone here had seen him and lived to tell a positive tale.

Took minibug 1 in for painfully inflamed gums and there was no wait, he kept switching languages with us fluently (as we only speak English with each other it can be confusing that we try to speak German to doctors and dentists).

Minibug's totally pleased with the treatment - the shot didn't hurt to start with. The Dr. recommended an exray that I was unsure about since the minibugs had just been for a checkup 4 weeks ago. But when minibug opened up wide and from where I was standing I could see a cavity on an upper molar I agreed to the full exray after all.

The next test is to see how he is with fillings on fearful 11 year olds. And the swollen gum issue was not only taken care of, it was after fully explaining and showing everything to me and seeing that I was ok with it all. Then he popped in the classical music (which pleased the minibug) and was done in three minutes.

And he has an excellent professional taking care of his equipment too

He also likes drinking spezi! How relevant is that!

Anyway Sinderbox I manage to get some news about you via him once in a while...

Just back from my second visit to Dr Saban and so far, I hope I dont jinx it now, Ive been very happy.

Originally went to Dr Sedlmair and am absolutely disgusted with her "services". She constantly tried the hard sell, wanting to do unnecessary and overpriced work and even trying to pressurise me into doing work cash in hand. I would be very very careful if you go to her - I think her whole approach unprofessional and uncaring.

Ive just had a root canal done by Dr Saban and didnt feel a thing, albeit I cant feel my tongue or anything else right now :) So far hes been very patient and explained everything. So far, so good. If he continues this way, I shall be a very happy bunny indeed.

Had some problems with my previous post. Here is the rest.

Here are a few recommendations based on personal experience these past few months.

Dr. Von Morenschild 089-474868. Geibelstrasse 6, 81679 Munich

- Speaks English. Has high-tech camera to display close up of your teeth on a LCD.

- I had a filling partially fall out and he was able to show me the nice hole it left in my upper molar. Price to take out old amalgam (one) filling and replacing with tooth colored composite came to € 155, rest paid by insurance.

- Takes Public insurance

Dr. Nina Baumeister 089-29160290. Maximilianstrasse 8, 80539 Munich

- Speaks English, very nice office and can take digital images for teeth x-ray. Offers teeth cleaning.

- I had to come here (my original Dentist was on holiday and his office referred my here) when the same molar became infected. Which was a possibility since who knows how long the tooth interior had been exposed when the original filling fell out.

- Recommended root canal. She takes public insurance, however her colleagues who perform root canal do not, hence the next referral.

Dr. Patrick Roundtree 089-2388500. SendlingerStrasse 62, 80331 Munich

- American who has been in Germany 20 years

- Accepts public insurance

- He specialty is root canals

- For an upper molar root canal (3 roots) - € 372, rest covered by insurance.

- Excellent service and no language problems.

Dr von Morenschild is really good, he used to work in our office, and then started out on his own upon completion of his assistance time. He also knows the importance of a Dental Hygienist not just a prophy assistant that took a weekend course that so many offices in germany use.

Dr. med.dent. Petra Doehring

Briennerstr. 14 80333 Munich

Tel: 089 26 659283

Fax 089 26 65 9283

petra.doehring@dr-petra-doehring.de

private and and other insurances

I have very positive experience with this doctror and therefore recommend her.

She helped to solve my problem quickly, efficiently and without causing any pain. The doctor and staff are very friendly. I think another advantage is the convenient location of the practice within 2 minutes walk from Odeonsplatz U-bahn.

Hi! Just wanted to let people know about my experience with Dr. Ralph McKinley Wood (Residenzstr. 14, 089 221 828) ... he's an American dentist. He also has an American DH that works out of his office, but you have to schedule a cleaning with her seperately. I got a basic check up and a cleaning (which he performed himself) and he did not try to "sell" me on anything extra. Walked out with only paying 10 Euro. I would recommend him...but keep in mind I don't have any major dental issues.
