Vierling and his daughter left this morning after a 2-week stay full of happy surprises, a terrible round trip in the rain between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, a shopping trip for her to The City with her Aunties; just a teen-ager's dream trip with her Papa. When she mentioned that she still played the clarinet but that she'd like to switch to the saxophone, Uncle Fuenfling brought out his sax, new in 1988, and gave it to her - still in good shape, all it needs is reeds. We all loved her, as we do her father. Of course I'm unhappy that they're gone, but it was wonderful having them here.
Also a cause for happiness - @sarabyrd is coming back to spend some time caring for me.

I've just found out one of my ancestors was a doctor on the Royal Navy's anti-slavery patrols off West Africa in the 19th century. That makes me happy- though I had nothing to do with it!

@sarabyrdis here again, for three weeks. She asked me to give friendly greetings to her TT friends.

Thank you, @fraufruit. @sarabyrd sends you warmest wishes for well-being and safe living. @Metall, I don't have access to your message, likewise @yesterday.

Reading an interesting fictionalized biography of Astrid Lindgren, in German, while listening to the audiobook, a format that is working well for me in terms of language learning. Just motoring through even when I miss the exact meaning of words, cuz I’ve got the gist. So I’m encouraged. That’s good, cuz I’m my own worst critic. 😃 Just gotta keep at it and be positive.

What you're doing, BethAnn, sounds good. I remember when I was far enough along in my German learning to read a novel, so I chose Das Wiedergefundene Licht. I started to write down every single vocab word I didn't know but gave up after 20 or so pages and then just read it for the gist. At the end I felt I understood the story and felt I had also improved my German!
To keep on the topic, I'm happy because there's young guy at work that I can actually communicate with in German. We both had fun communicating for a few minutes! (I am actually currently living in the U.S. where there don't seem to be too many German speakers.)
