For some of the wrong reasons- where it took place. That includes ( for those that care ) the World Cup in Argentina itself in 1978 where a harsh military dictatorship was in power. It should not have taken place. The highlight for me as a young man was the raising of a Scottish fans' banner during their match against the then Soviet Union: " Alcoholism versus Communism."

Hilarious.

That was in Spain in 1982. Indeed hilarious.

I’m happy right now cuz Armenian-Germerican grandkid #3 was born this afternoon, 4 weeks early, but healthy as can be. Plus, he is named after Opa, making him the 6th in line with the name. 🙏 ❤️  New Year’s in Yerevan for us!

Long life, joy and happiness to the Babe!

TWICE today  : women have helped me cross the road, walk a bit further etc due to the dodgy street conditions ( ice-ish ). I don't FEEL old. I can walk forever and have a clean bill of health from the doc..it is just ( just?😟) the eyes..

Both times I felt insecure. The second time I stood still , unable to move on, worried about falling over.

I am happy some people - maybe next time men - why not? - still recognise the need to help a fellow human being.

That has cheered me up.

Irony:  I still remember my 50th birthday, when I was gloriously young and even better- looking!😂

On that day, two people stood up for me on the bus- though I was perfectly healthy😂.

The things you remember!

Edit: I remember the Che Guevara times and now I have the magnifying glass times!

So, where are we now?

( can't do the accents right now on here ):

La revolucion continua v. la lupa continua

Edit: this 18 year old leg spinner: happy for him and English cricket's future.

England cricket team finished up the Test Match series 3-0 against Pakistan this morning in a first ever :)

"England in Pakistan: Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum restore joy to Test cricket"

Quote

It stands to reason that you are more likely to be good at something if you enjoy doing it.

Going to work, doing the garden, learning the whamola. You get the idea.

For a long time, the only thing less enjoyable than playing for the England Test team was watching them.

Not so much shutting the curtains if they were playing in the backyard, but asking the police to escort them away and taking out a restraining order so they could never again set foot in the same county.

The transformation under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum is absolute not only in terms of results - nine wins in 10 Tests capped with a historic 3-0 victory in Pakistan - but the restoration of joy to every aspect of England's Test cricket.

Found our cat that was missing.

Accidentally locked away in next door's garage.

Lucky for all it wasn't the other neighbour - they've gone to NZ for 10 weeks.

1982 was my introduction to the World Cup, and it was such an exciting introduction I've watched every year since. But not this year. Confound it.

I'm happy this evening because Erstling and his older daughter (15 already!) are here for two weeks. She's excited because she'll see SF, LA, and Las Vegas. He's excited because he'll be catching up with his two best friends from High School - an experience now 31 years in the past. I don't know my grandchildren well, and it makes me happy to have a connection with this one. I wish her sister could have come, too.

Ooops - Vierling, not Erstling. Haven't seen him for almost 5 years.

I thought so. 😂 Wonderful for you. Wishing you a lovely Christmas and a happy 2023 and a nice visit with him and your granddaughter. And stay clear of those earthquakes in NorCal. 😂

Proud moment… we go into Co op and there’s a old man sat outside Amelia says mummy is he homeless and I said yes… so she puts her hand in her pocket and gives the man her last pound!! He says to her no darling that’s yours an she turnt round an said we’ll it’s yours now… I no I’m not the best mother in the world but I’ve brought my kids up to be kind and caring for others! Not gonna lie made me choke up!

Happy New Year, one and all. The warm days will return and we'll all bask in the sun or under the chestnut trees. Remember, beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
