Lidl offer DSL / broadband Internet services

12 posts in this topic

The supermarket Lidl is about to offer DSL based Internet services at knock down prices. €19.99 for connection and access for first 3 months. Thereafter The DSL line costs €16.99, €19.99, €24.99 or €29.99 for 1,2,6 or 16Mbit service) same as Telekom, and €0.49/month for unlimited surfing for city dwellers, €2.49 for those outside the city. No connection charge for 2Mbit or higher. Their assumption is you already have a phone line at least.

A key point to this offer is that there is no minimum contract after the 3-month trial. Cancellation at anytime with 6 workdays notice.

See www.lidl-dsl.de or your local Lidl store from July 13.

This doesn't sound like a bad deal, but it seems that T-Com are the ones behind it, and I've heard some bad things about them..

Still doesn't beat this in price. Good, as YSL points out, you aren't locked into a year long contract with Lidl's offer.

such as?

Of course it beats the (GMX) price. Take GMX @16Mbit for 24 months and it will cost you 24 x €29.99 for the DSL line and nothing for the flatrate access - total cost = €719.16

Take Lidl for 24 months any you will pay €19.99 for both services for 3 months, then (21x€29.99) for the line plus (21x€2.49) for flatrate access. Total cost = €702.07 - you save €17.09. If you live in the city the savings are even more (€59.09). I agree that with lower line speeds the calculation is tighter, but there are no long term commitments and you have a direct contact to the Telekom customer service if your line fails (with GMX you need to contact themn first, and they contact Telekom)

That's "YL6" by the way

True enough! Thanks YL6! Yet, I am still locked in a contract with 1und1 for another year  .

Can anyone comment on this service from Lidl? Seems good on paper 'cept for the fact that you need to pay for the hardware (that's if you don't already have it).

What is there to comment about? It does what it says on the packet, the the advantage of not being locked in for long term.

Hi

Maybe someone can help me with a few questions re internet in munich...ive just got here so dont yet speak german. I bought a internet stick from lidl for 39.99 and €15 euro credit lasted me about a week/10 days.

Ive no idea what im being charged for, is it the amount of time you spend on the net or what you look at? For example if I watched you tube or similiar would that use more credit than if i was just surfing the web and sending emails?

Is there any service here in munich where you can have unlimited web access for a fixed price per month with no contract, preferably with wifi at home?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot guys!

Steo Ireland

If you are only using the service for Internet then then it needs to be activated for the deal you want to take. You have a choice of 1.99€/day or 14.99€/month. Sounds like you've been using it on the daily deal, and need to load at least 15€ credit into it then activate (using the software supplied) the monthly package. Note that after 5Gb of down/upload in a month then the service is restricted to 64Kb/s (on the daily rate after 500Mb)

I know this has been raised in other places on this site but I can not seem to find anything current or what I am looking for when I search. I want to buy a smartphone on a PAYG but want to know what offers are available for internet access. I am currently with Vodafone and would like to stay there. Do they offer any add-on's to a PAYG, such as 5GB per month for €xxx, if not does anyone? I have had a look at their website but my German fails me for finding what I want.
