Can anyone recommend a good English speaking doctor in the Bornheim region? I need one pretty quickly as I fractured my arm and put six stitches in my forehead last night.

Thanks, Tim.

Update: I finally found a doctor that speaks a little English. I just walked around with a list taken from the Gelbe Seiten. He seemed very keen for me to get my stitches removed at the hospital at the weekend rather than having him do it next week. His hands were shaking so much I felt the same way.

We've recently moved to Frankfurt (Eschersheim) and would like to know if anyone has has doctors/dentists that they really like. Preferrably English-speaking. One thing we've noticed here in Germany is that pain management is often lacking. We currently need a recommendation for a good general practitioner and a dentist who are caring, willing to listen, not talk down to us, and will make at least a passing effort not to cause pain and to manage pain efficiently after a procedure. Do these healthcare practitioners exist in Frankfurt? We have public insurance. Also, I have a friend looking for a female OB/GYN offering the same. Thanks for any advice.

I went to Dr. Najman 2 days ago. Even before treating me, he began advertising his practice etc... Yes, he does speak English and receives without an appointment. And if all you need is to get a prescription for some medication or a referral to another doctor, this is the place to come.

Hi,

I can highly recommend:

Gynacologist

Dr Michael Bielicki

Located in the center of town (Haupwache), he speaks perfect english, has all the latest equipments and is known as of the best gynacologist in Frankfurt.

Dentist

Dr Susanne Böhme

An extremely pleasant and patient person who enjoys speaking english given the opprtunity. She is very capable and competent and does not hesitate to give you pain killer for the treatments. I had a paradontal treatment done by her recently and it was not only painless, but she was quick and all went well despite the fact that I have my 3 months old baby with me everytime! If you ever go to her, please send her my regards.

I would just like to second jahlien's recommendation for Dr Michael Bielicki. My wife's regular gynocologist sent her to Dr. Bielicki for major ultrasound screening, and we found him extremely calm, comforting, communicative, etc. I would not be surprised if he was the best gynocologist in Frankfurt.

In search of a good Orthepic specialist / Sergion in Bad Homburg / Frankfurt

Sorry but my German is not very good - comes from South Africa:

On 22 December my feet slipred out from me while stepping onto the exit escalator (the flat rolletreppe – those for trolleys outstise Ikea Nierder Eschabck). But I did not have a trolley, just 3 items in my hands, and it all ahappened so fast, I did not get a chance to try to prevent the fall – consequently I fell with my full body weigt (like a broomstick would fall o over), right on my back – It was surely the hardest fall I ever had in my live. I stuggled to sit up straight, and managed to get to my feet by the time the escalator reached the bottom.

I could feel the were no major breakes, although I was high on an adresnalin rush. The day afterwards I started feeling my back is hurting – especially bending over. Getting into bed, and picking something up fromt the floor.

It was a difficult time of the year (Christmas / Sylvester) to get to see a doctor during this time – but managed to see a doctor here in Ober-Eschbach, but She just felt the spine, said she can see it is healivvly bruised, and gave me Ibubrofen. In the mornings my back is fine, but since around lunchtime, it really starts to hurt. I uses all kinds of painkillers, and rhuema bath oil, but it does not seel to help.

but so far no body sent me for exrays. Thus I decided of the pain does not go away by today I need to go and see an Orthopediac specialist. I am really suffering from my back.

Does anyone of you know of a good English (understadning) Othrpedic specialist. in Frankfurt area? I live in Bad homeburg, but would not mind driving to Frankfurt.

Chris - I am not sure how this blog works, but if you have an answer for me you are also welcome to email to me: cac.swart@t-online.de.44

Griße

Chris

I had a back problem a while ago and my suggestion is that if you think you have a real problem with your back then you should go to a regular doctor or GP and then have them refer you to a specialist. This is what I did. The specialist will take x-rays and check you out and give you a better idea if you have a real problem and then, most likely (because this seems to be pretty standard), they will refer you to a physiotherapist for some help. I think that most specialists will speak enough English for you to communicate your problem (if you really need to you can always take someone along to help translate for you). The Physiotherapists are less likely to speaks English, but lets face it, its a physical thing, so you'll get by. :) I haven't suggested any names here because you can't go directly to a specialist, but you will need a referral.

The only worry, much more so than the language, is your health insurance situation. You'll need to have some sort of cover for the specialist referral and the physio. I hope that helps...

Does anybody know any doctors which are open for business on Wednesday afternoon?

Every doctors website I have tried says they are closed for business after 12:00 on Wednesday. I do not understand this.. are people not allowed to be sick on Wednesday afternoons in Germany?

What do you do if you really need a doctor during this time?

As for seeing a doctor in Frankfurt, I have also seen Dr. Najman (as other people on this site have). This is the first time I have been to a doctor in Germany, and I wasn't sure how it would go down. My partner emailed Dr. Najman about the spectrum of things he treats. He said he could provide the specific service I needed. This was interesting (and by that I mean dubious), because I needed to see a specialist, and this doctor was a General Practitioner, though claimed he could do what I needed. I could not find listings for the specialist I needed, which was very weird. One of my old doctors said that there is a Gate Keeper system here. Which I guess must mean you need a referral from a GP before seeing a specialist. shrug. Anyway, here is the website:

http://www.arzt-frankfurt.de/index.php?id=280&L=3

I walked in without an appointment, though you can make an appointment on the website. Walking up to the office, I saw this place was connected to some other doctor's offices, one of which focused on acupuncture and some alternative medicine/traditional chinese treatments. There was a secretary in Dr. Najman's office who spoke a little English, and she provided me with a form to fill out in the waiting room. Dr. Najman has a lot of pictures up in the waiting room of celebrities (like Elton John). The photos have signatures, and the doctor is even pictured with some of the celebrities. The form I had to fill out was in English (phew), and upon returning it to the secretary, I asked her if my insurance would work. She told me that I pay up front, and then I ask my insurance company to reimburse me. I then asked how much I would have to pay up front, and she said she didn't know. I asked how the doctor figures it out, and she said she didn't know.

I waited in the waiting room for only about twenty minutes, when the doctor called me. Again, the focus of his office seemed to be the desk (not the bed thing...I am used to seeing doctors in America who have the bed thing as the focal point of the room). He was very helpful and called to see if my insurance would cover certain items. He then helped me get past some difficulties with my insurance company and wrote me a prescription for something I needed, although he wasn't really sure what the pharmacies would have that is the equivalent. About fifteen minutes and a flu diagnosis later, I paid 55 euros to the front desk and left. I will have to mail my invoice from the doctor's office to my insurance company to get reimbursed.

I mostly agree with previous poster's comments on this doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr Najman's for almost 4 years now. I first went there based on the reviews on English-speaking doctors in Frankfurt, and I was never disappointed. Not only is the place conveniently located on the riverside in the heart of the city but it is always a pleasant experience going there. There is relaxing music playing in the waiting room at all times, so that you get to sit back and cool down before you see the doctor. The numerous staff is bilingual (some even speak Spanish and Japanese, from what I could hear), so international patients definitely feel comfortable here. There is a team of several physicians with different specialities (cardiologists, internists, acupuncture, etc) but I’ve mostly dealt with Dr Najman himself. He is a very humane professional, who is able to build a personal connection with the patient and dealing with him is often making you feel better already! I can definitely recommend this place to any expats in Frankfurt looking for a competent, centrally located and multilingual medical practice!!

I started attending Dr Najnam earlier this year through a recommendation from someone else and I'm very happy with the treatment I've had so far. Not only do I find him helpful and professional, I'm also more than happy with the doctors/specialists he has recommended to me.

I'm just at the end of a complete check-up (the first one I've ever had) and all the doctors I've seen so far have also been of a similar philosophy. This is the first time I have ever felt satisified with my medical treatment.

(Pity we don't have TT badges so we could recognise each other in the waiting room :) )
