Old Russian Ruble value

5 posts in this topic

After my stay in Russia mid 90‘s, I saved a few Ruble notes. Most are dated 1993. I really thought these weren’t worth anything at the time, just a keepsake. Just found them again and at current rates, worth a hundred or so euros. Usage far better than keepsake! Does anyone happen to know if such old Rubles are still current or how to exchange them for current notes? I can’t imagine any of our sleepy local banks would help. Last time I requested GBP it was a big faff! Is such exchange even possible at the moment?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

@keith2011…if only! Judging by ebay sales of such old notes, not worth more than the original fiver! Shame? Back searching for a buried treasure somewhere in our house!

@emkay oh well just an idea. Somewhere in the attic I have a GBP fiver with a missing signature, used to be worth about 2 x face value, I guess I should look it out and see what its worth these days!

I shall no longer trust my husband’s German googling. I just looked in English….from 1995, Russian currency changed…500000 changed to something like 50. Oh well, back to keepsakes! Couldn’t even heat us for a 1 minute with gas, unless we burn the notes!

Check your fiver! Who knows? I bought a whole bucket of very old British coins about 30 years ago at a car boot sale. Kept it too! Every time there’s some media thing about this or that rare coin, I used to get then young kiddo looking through them all with her friend. Certainly kept them occupied for a while! Nothing turned up 🙄!

A few years ago I fell for The Royal Mint sale of limited £100 silver Big Ben Coins as legal tender. Nothing to lose? I bought a few only for them to no longer be legal tender soon after. About 4 years later I asked them for a refund given the change of legal tender status. They did refund and the postage costs. I’ll stick to our simple earned money!

Good luck with your fiver! 😊
