TT might be on the way out.
There is a lot of useful information on the site. Admittedly there's probably an order of magnitude more of non-useful stuff!
However, it would be nice to have this information available if the site does die and is taken down.
The WaybackMachine has some snapshots of the site but isn't so easy to navigate / search.

The "The Local" linked "Liiving in Germany" facebook sounds fun. They claim over 17K members. But only 5 posts this month. Sounds like a ball. Any of you guys members? Hey, I am always a sucker for stuff in block capitals.

Does anyone know what has caused The Local to no longer care about TT? I mean the Sweden one was crap. German TT was way superior with information from numerous expert sources re Tax, health insurance stuff and many others. And also lots of valuable middle level information. Of course it used to be much more fun, as MC reminds us. The Swiss forum is so dull and lacks a lot of the solid information that TT provides. But it lives on.

I just printed (saved as pdf) several of the threads I have bookmarked in case ToytownGermany disappears. Most of them are from Panda Munich regarding tax issues. I'm hoping the website does stay around.

So, I basically stopped coming around here because it all just got to be such a joke.

Let's face it. The former board manager, who got let go last summer for obvious reasons, spent the bulk of his time on here running two or three sock puppets (some of whom are still around because, yeah, loser guy) that were not productive contributors because he got the brain sickness known as bigoted, bougie cryptobroQanonsense. Nothing will redeem him, and I hope he reads this and knows this is the general consensus of the community he created; however, we know he knows this because he monitored the DM groups talking about how bad this place had gotten. It is to the credit of The Local that they shut him down in Switzerland when he tried to give white supremacists mod responsibilities and gave him the old tomato here. He, and others, got too comfortable saying the quiet part out loud. Nothing was more delicious than when he deleted his own post that said that Trump would beat Biden.

After the Syrian refugee racists debacle, he led the board into an era of winked at racism, sexism, and threats of violence. He had previously supported alcoholics, drug addicts and nutters in the IRL pursuit of revenge for perceived slights. Nothing stopped them except for IRL consequences (that some were able and all too happy to deliver). This type of "man" is sad to find out that Whitemanistan is no longer a super power, which never mattered for him because he was never part of any power structure anyway.

This is not indicative of all white men, as many of you on here are absolute gentlemen and scholars.

To the remaining racists, sexists, and white supremacists: Your jokes are still shite as are you. Don't delete your account. No one cares.

The nature of social groups, no matter their form, is that they eventually disintegrate. We just get to have this nice meta conversation about this one.

Just to find out that the "owner" of this forum isn't really interested in keeping it going. Maybe not enough ad revenue generated?

Then I started thinking... what exactly is the benefit (other than "entertainment") that I personally gained/provided?

Sorry to say, I didn't come up with a lot to show here. I may have helped one or two people during my tenure. I also found one very helpful answer to a problem that kept me busy searching for a solution.

So, I would be relatively unphased by the demise of TT. I also would definitely gain back some time that I could then apply to more productive/useful activities.

That was my guess too. With so few daily users (compared to the past), advertisers decided there's not enough eyes on page. TT has turned into a reference library with few visitors. I don't see any of the IT users stepping up to buy and maintain TT...maybe because it generates little (if any) revenue and the maintenance costs outweigh any profit. The ardent socialists on this site would expect the State to take it over.

And as a reference library it often fails because with the exception of PandaMunich's and Starshollow's posts, most of the material is just out of date or irrelevant.

Well, before the lights possibly go out, I wish to say that despite the occasional drama 😃 I learned invaluable ℹ️ here in 2018 that helped us move to 🇩🇪 in 2019 as non-EU retirees, which is no small feat. TT also helped me to find two invaluable people in our lives, our insurance agent 🙏, who helped my husband, a former German citizen, step into GKV at 55+, and our German tax accountant 🙏, who continues to help us navigate the obvious. These two folks alone are worth A LOT to us. Along the way I picked up many other useful tidbits and made a few lovely friends virtually, some of whom I hope to see in person in the future. For any time wasted I have only myself to blame. 🤦🏼‍♀️ TT has been a net gain for me and I am very grateful.
