Who should pay? - Glass door develop crack automatically

4 posts in this topic

Yesterday, i opened the door tilted for ventilation. Today morning I noticed 2 big crack in the big balcony window attached to the door. My doubt is, who should fix and pay for this? What is the legal basis ? I just have a liability insurance and not household -

- I didn't break it, i just opened it and saw this in morning. Is it me who need to fix and pay for it ? Does this event covered as a liability case ?

- Is it the building management who need to fix and pay for it ?

-How should i approach this?

What are your experiences, suggestion and advise in this case. Do I need to or should I require to involve my liability insurance partner for this small event. I am not sure exactly what would be the repair cost for this. Can anyone give any idea ? What will be the impacts on my insurance in future if i claim this case? Pros and cons..!

Thanks!

Tell the landlord.  Maybe they have glass insurance.  If they don't, they will blame you.  Tell them to talk to your insurance.  Your insurance might pay, maybe not.  This is why people have haftpflicht.  Your bill should not go up because of a window, even if they pay for it.  Mine paid for a whole new roof for my neighbours, long, ridiuculous story but what have you.

And your premium didn’t go up after they paid for your neighbor’s roof

Nope, it didn't.  I'm actually surprised they paid for it because it wasn't my fault.  The neighbours roof was shot, looked like a patched up old carpet.  They however maintained that it didn't start leaking until my roof got fixed.  They blamed my roofers for causing the problem.

My roofers did actually mention it to the guy who lives in the house that his roof is awful and needs TLC and he said, yeah, I know, it leaks, I'll talk to my sister.  His sister owns it and he rents from her.  He either didn't talk to her or she brushed him off.  Later his sister maintained to insurance that her brother didn't mean that it leaked, he meant it's damp when he dries his laundry inside and besides, he doesn't know what he's talking about because he is depressed and that it never leaked until after my roofers were there.  Still, I would have expected my insurance to tell her to go sue the roofers then because this is not my fault.
