Installing the BBC iPlayer App is the quickest route

@colincostello had (has?) a very old school phone and no internet in his flat, and an FM radio (currently not currented). At least as far as I remember.  Perhaps he has been forced to upgrade his phone at least.  TBH I never quite understood how he could even chat to us here, what with everything.  I hope he sorts out his BBC WS thing.

We didn't pay anything for it in our car.

No, it does not cost anything.  Apart from having a DAB radio.  I guess that is perhaps what he meant?  Though pretty weird.  You can still pick up the WS in Italy using FM.  And probably even on shortwave, like if you really needed to.  I hope so.

I have tried 90.2 FM many times and got nothing: Yet on 94.8 MZ I get excellent reception.

I just checked in the radio in our car, 90.2 FM is Radio Teddy (kids station) and in 94.8 FM there were speaking English so I assume is that one.   I guess any simple radio should work.   Our car is from 2006 so I assume it has an old school radio.

Thanks for checking.  I guess they are not bothering to update anything.  Sending them an angrymail. Edit, I am not.  There website overflows with "send us an email" but do not say how to do so.

I went to my local radio shop and asked for some help. All he did was get out a universal pack. This contained one standard German plug and 6 different attachments. The problem is that it was wrapped tighly in plastic so I could not check before I buy and he was not willing to open the package. Anyway , I have tried this before somewhere else and got nowhere.

To answer Snowingagain , I use the library a lot. It has good internet speed and does not allow me to access several distracting websites. So I concentrate on my German. Also , the atmosphere is really good. I am surrounded by lots of students all busy working away and this is good. If I get bored or need a break there is plenty of reading material.e.g English newspaper.

So i went to Media Markt and purchased a small digital radio. I tried to get the BBC World Sevice there and then but could not. This may have been due to interference  as I was deep inside a shopping mall. Indeed , my own radio which normally gets the BBC did not pick up a signal. So I took it home and tried. I pressed the fm mode and then the scanning button. I watched as the frequencies started to appear , beginning at about 87 MZ. Sadly , it did not stop at 94.8 which is the bbc frequency.

I took t back and got a refund.

It is batteries from now on. About 3 euros a week. I can live iive that.

Is this yet another example of digital exclusion?

I have (stupidly) only just realised that  you say the radio you brought from UK (which still works with batteries) , a DIGITAL radio.  Which is confusing me.   It does not sound like one.

With this phone you will probably be able to,

Fix https://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/topic/393079-how-to-get-the-bbc-world-service-in-berlin/?page=2#comment-3950715, listen  to the FM radio that built into the phone, or by using its wireless internet with a Radio app. If you are going to spend 3 Euro's a week on batteries, you can buy enough internet usage for internet radio and more, for much less than 12 Euro;s a month and do not cause as much damage to the environment by using batteries.

You could also use the same phone to book flights and check in on your phone, rather than printing out the check in details, from home or anywhere with WIFI.

https://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/topic/392522-how-to-print-my-british-airways-ticket/#comment-3940511  for BA or other Airlines

You can also use it as a smartphone to book tickets on Flixbus and other services

You will get a lot more features and functions, from the phone above than the Nokia, you got in November last year

As said if you get the Lidl ( as just one example there are many others ) package, you get 6GB per month, more than enough for Radio and only 7.99 per month including all German calls

So if you spend 3 Euro per week on Battries, that's 12 per month, this package cost 8 euro a month, so you save 4 Euro a month !, Which means it pays for the new phone in 16 months!!!. You will be able to use your new phone at home to do a little surfing the net as well, you can also use the free WIFI in the Library aswell for other surfing

"The Lazarus Heist" is well worth a listen, fascinating and gripping:

"Almost a perfect crime.” The hacking ring and an attempt to steal a billion dollars. Investigators blame North Korea. Pyongyang denies involvement. The story begins in Hollywood."

Quote

Episode 1. Hacking Hollywood:

A movie, Kim Jong-un and a devastating cyber attack. The story of the Sony hack. How the Lazarus Group hackers caused mayhem in Hollywood and for Sony Pictures Entertainment.
And this is just the beginning…

They even took it live:
