€49 Ticket is here

Yay.  Well, from 1 Mai.  Just around the corner.  There was talk of a bit of a discount for people under 25.  But nothing of that yet?

I read you can only subscribe to the €49-ticket with a decent Schufa score. May be a problem for those who need it most.

Might be a Ländersache as I only heard of Bayern doing it:

Bayern: Das 29-Euro-Ticket für junge Leute kommt im Herbst - Bayern - SZ.de (sueddeutsche.de)

I read that Stuttgart will be providing them for free to all city employees and I wonder if the big employers will follow suit. It'd be a positive for recruiting new people.

It's coming and flixbus threatens to cut some of their services because they didn't get a slice of the cake, see  49-Euro-Ticket kommt - Flixbus kündigt drastische Konsequenzen an - DerWesten.de

There will be an option for those with bad Schufa, see  Deutschlandticket: Schufa-Abfrage nicht bei jedem Verkehrsunternehmen (rnd.de)  and  49-Euro-Ticket trotz Schufa-Eintrag? So bekommen Sie das Deutschlandticket (t-online.de)

It looks like DB will be checking Schufa but some local transport will not, such as BVG in Berlin have said they will not.  You can also buy it online through deutschlandticket.de without a Schufa check

Thanks. Good to know for my upcoming trip to Germany as I will probably not have a Schufa score ( not being a resident).

Do they offer local transport?  Thought it was mainly long distance stuff.  And Flixtrain never worked for me.  Looked cheap but really it was marginal. And if something went wrong you were bolloxed.  The reviews for the trains service are dreadful.  They cancel a lot.  And then you can only buy an expensive DB ticket, as it is last minute.  When it works, fine.  But they should be made to pay up for when they fuck up.  DB has to.

I've only taken the Flix bus a couple of times but know other ppl who've used them more without incident. Never taken the Flix train. Checking for relatives who are planning to visit in April, a Flix bus ticket is half of the price of a train and with more flexibility.

I have used Flix bus a few times, good service , never any problems though the journey from Munich to Berlin seems to take forever and longer if the autobahn is busy but it compares very favourably on price with the high speed trains though not on comfort and speed! Of course the €49 ticket won't get you on the ice trains and I have never tried getting to Berlin for example via regional trains, so can't really compare.

But surely their buses compete with ICE and IC routes, which the 49 Euro ticket does not include.   I mean, you can use it to get really long distances if you have the patience, and can tolerate the basic amenities and time involved.  (I mean using regional trains to travel long distance).

Great news. :)

I bought my €9 euro ticket from the ticket machine last year. I saw that the €49 euro ticket is only available digital and online? (see link)

Would be good if we can get it from machines too. Guess we will wait and see what the decision will be.

It is going to be a yearly sub only.  You can cancel per month.

Anyone using a Flix Bus is more motivated by price than speed so using the regional trains (basically free if you've already bought the €49 Ticket to use the local transport) is going to appeal to them. I guess Flix Bus can still win on routes where going by train would be too ridiculous.

I've once been on a Flix Bus and it was okay. But I find a train is a much more comfortable place to be than a coach.

I wonder where all this leaves the Verkehrsbunds. I could just as well by my ticket from BVG in Berlin as from VVS in Stuttgart (or from DB or the website mentioned above). I guess the money is distributed somehow, but if this whole thing is successful the concept of organising things by region looks redundant.

Flix bus and train are cheap, and slower than ICE.

You can get from A to B on RE trains with a couple of changes. I do not mind changing, even waiting in the fresh air for half an hour at Tinytown Junction.

Can not remember taking a long trip on a bus, but it is not the same as going on a train. I am thinking of the toilet😕

The Flix bus routes certainly compete with the ICE/ICs on price but not in terms of the comfort or journey time.  I suspect if you plan your journey the €49 ticket may also compete with the bus routes both on price and comfort though not perhaps for journey time.

Hoping also that the €49 ticket is available from ticket machines, eventually if not now, it was certainly very attractive to be able to buy the €9 tickets for friends visiting from the UK for a week in Munich, super saving compared to tickets to/from the airport and and 7 days of tickets in the city centre.

Munich to Berlin:

ICE takes 4.5 hrs. and costs 80-90€, direct or one change

RB takes 9.5-10.5 hrs. and costs 44€, three to five changes

Flixbus takes 7.5 to 9 hrs. and costs 40€, direct

If you already have the 49€ ticket and aren't in a hurry, you'd probably go for RB.  Some people might see it as an advantage that you have to get up and change trains while others might see it as a nuisance and prefer sleeping for hours on the bus.  Also depends on the weather I guess.  Also, you'd be guaranteed a seat on the bus which is not always the case on RB

Actually, it will be available too as a chip card, not just digital and if you do not want to buy it online, you can go to a DB or local transport sales point and get it there.  It is however a subscription although it's month to month so it will not be available on the machines.

Depends.  The FlixBus routes from Konstanz to Stuttgart and Munich are direct, cheaper, have good WIFi, and are often more reliable than DB.  We can get to Munich on the SBB via Skt. Gallen too.  The more options we have, the better.

Does Flixbus allow your children under 15 to travel free with you?   This was a huge thing for encouraging us to use the train.

I can get MU BE on Monday for about 50 Euro with my Bahncard 25.
