Posted 9 November Got more than 49€ worth of travel each month so far🙂 One time I did get home 3h30m late because a so-called private operator cancelled a couple trains, but most of the trains are on time. There were complaints about trains being more than 100% full but a railway spokesperson correctly pointed out that there are enough seats. Trouble is lots of people travel at certain times. If you include the less popular trains in "Tagesrandlagen" (vocab!) there are enough seats. Probably lots of space on the 03:53 from Stralsund towards Berlin 🙃

Much the same for me, a lot of savings so far and also had a private operator (Alex) train delayed by 20 mins every 20 mins till it was more than 2 hours late and then terminated before its scheduled destination and we had to change to the S-Bahn, down and then up to another platform and naturally the lift up was out of order and I had to carry two heavily loaded e-bikes up 2 flights of steps.😒😒 Other than that everything was impressively punctual.
Posted 9 November Me too, I had a few appointments, a family day out and once a week band practice. Normal price €111. 😃
Posted 23 November The Deutschland Ticket is to be valid on a handful of Fernzüge, express trains! Not sure if this is immediate. Only last week a Zugbegleiterin confirmed it was not valid. Should be good for express trains from Berlin to the following Metropoli: Elsterwerda, Cottbus and Prenzlau 🙃 I shall certainly be taking advantage, makes me feel important to sit in an ICE even if it does not go above 120 kmh
Posted 23 November It was always possible to use it on the ICs from Stuttgart to Singen. But they're not very express - although the new ICs are pretty nice. I guess you mean this ("ab Freitag"): https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/regional/brandenburg/rbb-deutschlandticket-gilt-fortan-auch-fuer-einzelne-fernzuege-in-brandenburg-100.html I've been doing a few Saturday days out to see local towns I've never been to thanks to the train travel being "free". Enjoy it whilst it lasts: Even if it isn't scrapped due to the current budget hole I have a feeling the next government will be a CDU-AfD coalition.
Posted 23 November Scrapping the Deutschland Ticket would offend millions of pendler/commuters who used to pay hundreds a month, they are a couple grand or more better off annually. I bet they would not dare scrap it! Might change the conditions or up the price.
Posted 24 November OTOH millions of car owners resent that tax payers money is going to subsidise train fares. Which is a not unreasonable point of view, especially for those that live somewhere with a few busses a day.
Posted 24 November "OTOH millions of car owners resent that tax payers money is going to subsidise train fares" Really??? What about those millions of car owners who are now using public transport to travel to work because it is cheaper than running a car? Not only has the €49,- ticket and other measures greatly reduced the traffic and pollution in those cities and towns that have a decent public transport system but in turn has improved travel times and experience for those who do have to use a car! It has also improved the leisure opportunities, people can now travel all over at no additional cost and spend or save more which is good for the economy.
Posted 24 November Whatabout the millions of mortorists who have more space because millions upgraded from car to train, are they complaining? Perhaps they should be, if there is more space on the road you can go faster and are more likely to die in an auto wreck
Posted 24 November "Perhaps they should be, if there is more space on the road you can go faster and are more likely to die in an auto wreck" Sure. Always more accidents with less cars on the road. Yer funny.
Posted 24 November Nothing funny about the stupidity of the average motorist If the freeway is jammed there are few serious "accidents"
Posted 24 November First hit- "While a car accident can happen at any time and place, accidents often increase in both frequency and severity during traffic congestion." https://rhoadeslegal.com/2022/07/09/car-accidents-increase-traffic-congestion/
