Posted 5 August Took the train down to Lindau last Friday with bikes, on the return on Monday by the time the train left the station it was absolutely packed, 6 bikes and standing room only in our compartment. The train starts from Lindau and we got there early enough so no problem finding a place for the bikes and seats. An old couple who got there later and found no seats were complaining that the bikes were taking up seating places, it was one of those trains where the area for bikes, prams and wheelchairs etc also have fold down seating, I pointed out that we had to pay extra for the bikes but although there were many children under 6 traveling with their parents on a €49 ticket for free, with seats, sad to say they were not willing to give up their places for the obviously less able! We shared our seats in shifts with a very nice older women who was very grateful not to have to stand all the way to Munich. The €49 ticket is great but with the trains being much busier please give a thought to those who may be older and or less fit, particularly if you are traveling with kids who really may not need a seat.
Posted 8 August More toilet troubles on the ODEG. On one train all four toilets were out of service. So at one station the driver announced he would wait a while so hundreds of passengers could go in the bushes.😕

Posted 28 August I'm going to travel from Swiss border to Munich, make at least one return trip Munich<->Nürnberg and probably end up going North: Berlin or Amsterdam, Does the €49 ticket make sense for this? Does ticking "Nur Nahverkehr" on bahn.de present trains that are valid for this ticket?

I think not, the €49,- ticket does not, I believe, cover travel outside of Germany even in German/DB trains. While "Nur Nahverkehr" trains in Germany do qualify for the €49,- ticket for example on a quick look the travel time from Munich to Amsterdam using these trains is 1 day and 20 hours whereas its normally takes 8-9 hours on fast trains. Even for Munich-Nürnberg you can get fast train non stop( little over 1 hour) advanced booking tickets for under €20,- each way whereas slow trains take over 2 hours. For a resident with a months time and local transport the €49,- ticket is great value but for tourists on a short visit with long distance travel plans I'm not so sure!
Posted 28 August I often take Nahverkehr and go on a Bayern ticket Munich->Nürnberg, but the connection from Lindau to Munich didn't look attractive, and I guess it's almost pointless for going more than a few 100km Thanks @keith2011 for some fast good sense. It still might make sense for my trip to Nürnberg, and MVV. Does it cover MVV?
Posted 28 August Yes, the €49,- ticket covers the MVV fully, U-Bahn, Bus, Trams also Munich S-Bahn, Alex and others (including the service from Lindau to Munich, whose name I have forgotten).
Posted 28 August Some journeys into neighbouring countries are permitted. Probably where they were/are previously covered by other tickets. For example, with the Niedersachsen ticket it is possible to travel to certain destinations in the Netherlands. My husband missed his ICE last week and was able to get to NL on his Deutschland ticket and then finally just booked one cheap ticket to get him to his final destination. https://www.bahn.de/faq/deutschlandticket-verkehrsmittel-ausland
Posted 28 August The fast trains from Lindau to Munich are EC. These are not €49?
Posted 28 August If you are planning on traveling from Lindau Bhf on the "Insel" then the EC is only about 10 mins quicker to Munich as you would need to change trains to pick up the EC at Lindau-Reutin whereas the RE (€49,- ticket valid) is direct without change.
Posted 5 September Not doing a train trip this week. Bahn website was just upgraded=does not work, so I can not check train times 😕
Posted 5 September Hmm, I just used the "upgraded" DB website to confirm the times etc. of a trip I will be taking next Saturday, it is a different layout but it worked fine!
Posted 5 September Did DB say, 'Hey AI, make us a new website.' ? it is awful.
Posted 10 September I could not buy a ticket from Unterterzen to Germany. There are major constructions work somewhere on the way and both sbb.ch and bahn.de gave unexpected errors. I ended up going to Zurich and taking the Flix bus. But I bought a Deutschland ticket anyway and have already got my money's worth. Trip to Nürnberg and back, and public transport in both cities. Being prudent I immediately tried to cancel it for October and could not log onto the Abo portal. So I sent an Email saying cancel for October. Today on the train from Nürnberg to Munich: my first ticket inspection I found they have cancelled it for September! No fine, she asked to see the Email where I had bought it. So I went and to the website to order another one. And found the problem. If you type in your date of birth like a power user does, they want mm.dd.yyyy. If you use the pull down calendar it gives you the date in mm.dd.yyyy format. So I've now managed in less time than it took to write this: To order, cancel, and load
Posted 10 September I am also trying to cancel October, still trying... ugh
Posted 10 September How did you buy it? Had no problems cancelling via DB. Seamless.
Posted 11 September I logged into Deutsche Bahn website, went to abo portal, loaded my Deutschland ticket, and then took the cancel 30 Sep. The problem is to load the ticket into the Abo portal you need: Auftrags number, DOB, PLZ And my DOB can be typed in backwards (7 Nov) and was when I just typed it in instead of using the calendar picker.
Posted 17 September My train was late again, spoke to the friendly ticket-inspector, he asked for the connecting train to wait for me so I got home on time🙂 Sometimes train travel is troubling (delays, overcrowding etc) but it is so much easier than driving. Driving and parking in Berlin?🙃 No, I prefer my Mercedes plus Chauffeur (Bus)
Posted 17 September Yes, sometimes the train can be frustrating:- Took the train home to Munich from Regesburg last Wednesday with bikes, it was 90 mis late leaving and ended up terminating at Freising instead of going on to Munich Hbf. Naturally we had to change platforms at Freising to take the S-bahn, the lift down worked but of course the one up was out of order and carrying 2 E-bikes each with fully loaded panniers up two flight of steps is no fun and then we had to stand all the way to Munich but lucky we did find space for the bikes! Other than that we had a brilliant 4 day bike tour down the Regental!
Posted Thursday at 2:39 PM Hi I would like to buy Deutschland-Ticket, valid for October, for the first time and would like to be sure below statements are correct: - I can use MVV app - I can buy it already now, before October - before 10.10 I must cancel it, otherwise I will have to pay it also for November. Is all above correct? Thanks
