After five years as student in Germany and starting to work with blue card, how far still from German citizenship?

4 posts in this topic

I spent a year as an exchange student in Germany, then half year of bachelor student after which I quitted. And after going back home for 1.5 years, I went back to Germany again and spent another five years as a student, and I will work with a blue card in a few months, so under the current policy or the new proposed policy, how long will it still take me to be eligible for applying the German citizenship? I have heard something like one must work at least two years to apply for citizenship, regardless of the previous duration of stay.

I know that how long the study duration is counted depends on the Bundesland where I apply for the citizenship, so let's assume that I am in a state with the most lenient naturalization policy.

p.s. I have TDN 5 in all parts which may allow me to go for a fast-track naturalization based on good German language proficiency.

Your previous stay in Germany will not be considered for calculation for duration of stay in Germany for Citizenship , if more than 6 months gap from previous stay, even in your case, you were student, hence it is void,

You calculate from your entry to Germany via Blue card to 8 years as per current law to eligible to apply for naturalisation.

New law is not yet approved in Bundestag and Bundesrat, hence let us not talk about that.

However I have searched in the internet that for some cases, the duration of stay is counted before leaving Germany for more than 6 months as long as this departure was not too far in the past and the two stays show correlations. And also I didn't enter Germany with blue card, but I get it while searching job as a student in Germany, so I assume that the duration of study should be counted? The staff in ausländerbehörde seemed to imply that my 5+ years stay as student here is recognized for Einbürgerung. And since I have B2+ German, 6 years of stay should suffice under the current law?

Well, if you have already checked with the relevant Amt, why are you asking here amongst  unqualified TT members?!
