Scammed Through eBay

4 posts in this topic

I hoped someone can advice me on what to do.

Just this afternoon, a couple of hours ago, I purchased a phone through ebay. I paid through paypal, with my credit card. Payment went through and seller even wrote to thank me for my payment.

Tonight, I searched for the phone I purchased and filtered the results to sold only. When I scrolled down, I found the seller sold 2 exact same phones 2 days ago. The seller sold the same phone, twice. I am the third buyer. The pictures, title and descriptions are exactly the same. Even the prices are the same. It was foolish of me not to thoroughly check the reviews. They are all reviews from other sellers. It looks like the seller has never sold anything since 2003. Just buying stuff for reviews.

Now it’s Sunday and I can not call ebay. Only tomorrow at 09:00. Is there still a chance for me to get my money back? Does ebay normally withhold payments for a certain number for days?

How do you know the seller doesn't have more than 1 phone he wants to sell? So far, in my view you don't have a case. Just wait and see if it will be delivered.

In case seller fails to provide you the desired product, you can get your money back from PayPal and your creditcard.through chargeback. But before doing this you should give time to seller to deliver the product.

PayPal includes insurance for up to 500 EUR when you buy from eBay and pay with PayPal.   Be careful to understand the complain process in PayPal, you will have to reply to them more than once IIRC, otherwise they might close the case and once they do it you have no other chance.
