Temporary exceeding income limits for free family membership in statutory health insurance

2 posts in this topic

Hi,

my wife was accepted as a free member into my statutory health insurance in May 2022. Just now, when preparing documents for tax declaration, we discovered that in May and June she earned an equivalent of 473 EUR and 533 EUR, respectively, from foreighn capical. The income currency was not EUR, so we did not expect it to be so high after conversion. Her earnings since then and until now are aroung zero.

Does anyone know from personal experience whether this is a big problem?

Does anyone know a good specialist in Heidelberg to advise on this issue?

Thanks to all and have a good day.

Hi,

I'm looking at a similar situation myself. I called TK and they said they consider earnings as averaged over the whole year as provided in the tax report. The limits for earned income while getting free coverage through Familieversicherung are currently 485 €/month for selbständig/freelancers or 520 €/month for mini-jobbers. Your wife should be well under this for the year from what you described. However, they said they count almost all income - even profits from stocks - so just FYI. Basically the only income they exempt is welfare payments (eltern/kind/wohn-geld): https://www.tk.de/techniker/leistungen-und-mitgliedschaft/informationen-versicherte/leistungen/entlastung-fuer-familien/versichert-als-familie-in-der-familienversicherung/einkommensgrenze-familienversicherung-2005696?tkcm=ab

I'm guessing most of the insurance companies have the same policy on this, but you can call yours to check - no need for a lawyer or accountant.

Good luck and don't worry :)
