Boris Becker home in Germany

22 posts in this topic

Becker has left prison and is back in Germany, as a convicted criminal he has been banned from visiting the UK for ten years. Is the conviction spent after that?

He suddenly unexpectedly won one of the greatest sporting events in the world aged seventeen. Suddenly he was the most famous living German person, and tennis clubs and facilities sprung up like mushrooms in the woods.

I would not have been ready for such fame at 17.

As a half-british, half-german person I think I have something in common with him.

But is he now famous mostly for being famous? Do younger people know about his tennis career?

Intrigued.  Are you a millionaire, a bankrupted guy, fantastic at tennis, or do you fuck people in restaurant cupboards just after meeting them?

A millionaire, or ex-millionaire? No, I started on my second million (have not got my first million yet).

And I am older than him, but I look younger😉

So, the restaurant thing?  You just being coy?  Sadly no TT Berlin/Brandenburg restaurant meet ups.  And a  bit of a schlepp for me.  Ha.  Boris is just around the corner from me.

Sorry to nag, but keen to know about your thoughts about quicky sex in restaurant cupboards with near strangers.  Life here in BW is dull, even with BB moving back.

I expect he will publish another autobiography soon, then you can read all about him😉

I was reading about bobec in the taz, there is another article about the great jan ulrich who won the tour de france for Germany. But only after being urged on by his team-mate with the immortal words: "qual dich, du Sau!" / 'suffer, you pig!'🐖

He gave a long interview on SAT1 the night before last. I managed to watch about 5 minutes of it, before being unable to hear the unrepentant, self-pitying clown any more. Apparently it is inhumane to forbid him from having a mobile phone in prison...or assumedly expect him to be honest with the tax authorities.

Whilst Ulrich has clearly got a lot of personal problems, I tend to find the German media view his career/performance as unambiguously positive as his EPO tests (source: French Senate releases positive EPO cases from 1998 Tour de France | Cyclingnews ). I can understand the potential argument that almost all cyclists seem to have been doping in the 90s and early 2000s, but they tend to skip over that issue entirely.

Didn´t watch the interview but was watching Frühstuck fernseher and they were pretty much making him out to be some kind of hero.

I mean the blokes not a deviant but jesus he was put inside for hiding over a million from his creditors after being declared bankrupt.

I thought he was meant to be doing at least a year of a 2 year sentence. He seems to have been released in only a few weeks.

It is a quite reasonable scheme to save money for the prison service.

Boris does not look overly academically gifted. I have every confidence he had accountants doing his books and had no clue of the detail... they would be ripping him off themselves and only telling him what they wanted him to know. What happened to the zillions ? He was busy doing other stuff. Sometimes in cupboards. And there also comes a point at his level where the amount not paid was a drop in the ocean compared to what he did pay. Who in his shoes wouldn't espouse a policy of tax avoidance or try to save what he could after being fleeced left, right and centre ? I have not followed the story but I can imagine it s been the witch hunt of a tall poppy.

And being banged up with the crud with no outlet is its own punishment over and above deprivation of freedom. Think about it. Having been in a cell - inhumane is indeed the word I would use - I can imagine the unpretty reality. Can you ?

Why, he has something in common with people who do not buy a transit ticket for €3,20. Reforms are afoot to stop or reduce prison sentences for Schwarzfahren.

..

As for jan ulrich, there was a lot of hysteria back then, he was claimed by Rostock (birthplace), Hamburg (lived there), Freiburg (lived there).

Actually his success had to do with organised sport in the DDR too.

What zillions? He is a washed up old tennis player who blew all of his money as many sportler do. No more sponsors, etc. to support him. Not to mention alimony and child support payments.

I have no data but what are the odds he was shamelessly exploited by his entourage ? He seemed pretty naive last time I looked. Can t see him getting to grips with the nittygritty maths and small print. Just my hunch of course.

Cf. The Osmands, Utah

Sigh.

Commenting on something not relevant.

He was not sentenced for tax evasion.

He was declared bankrupt owing millions to various people and he then proceeded to hide money from his creditors.

Totally different things.

He did not just deny the govt money he denied various companies money including people like his cleaners, gardeners etc.

It´s not some witch hunt, it´s about a multi millionaire not paying his bills and then moving money it out of his accounts so his creditors do not think he has it.

What he tried to hide was amongst other things...

Property worth appx 450000

An 800k loan

Appx 300k in shares

So hardly broke and despite being a multi-millionaire he still couldn´t live within his means.

So please no sob story about the poor man in prison, he got treated with kid gloves in his insolvency hearing but that wasn´t good enough for him so he decided to take the piss even more and got caught.

Now according to rumours, his girlfriend has set up a company in the UK and they´re marrying which will mean any earnings that the company makes including money from him will not go to his creditors as his debts will not fall on her.

Agree with everything you said, and he was already prosecuted for tax evasion in Germany. The guy's a serial offender.

But that bit doesn't sound so unreasonable and having been made bankrupt he shouldn't have any creditors (unless he has new ones). It may be that he simply isn't able to setup his own company.

From wikipedia:

On 21 June 2017, Becker was declared bankrupt by the Bankruptcy and Companies Court in London.[58][59] The order arose when a 2015 debt—centered around an unpaid loan on Becker's estate in Mallorca, Spain—owed to private bank Arbuthnot Latham for nearly $14 million[60] was not paid in full before an assigned deadline, and there was no realistic expectation that it would be paid.[61][62] Becker denied ... that he owed former business adviser Hans-Dieter Cleven any money; Cleven filed suit in a Switzerland court claiming he was owed $41 million.

Life s too short to read the tabloids for more.

Ahem- many people( especially businesses and wealthy Promis) may use bankruptcy as a way to avoid creditors, and then starting up again.

And hiding your wealth to avoid payment  should be punished!
