Posted 6 Dec 2022 Hello everyone, I wanted to create a new topic to avoid talking different ones in the same thread. I'm actually living in Germany for 8+ years and I already got the German citizenship few days ago. The next steps are that we would like to move to Uruguay, maybe temporarily, maybe permanently.. we don't know yet.. There is a chance that we will move without a job, do you know if there is a chance to apply for Arbeitslosengeld while living in Uruguay?, keeping in mind that the Arbeitslosengeld I is for 1 year, would be great to have such money to help us while searching for a job Thank you!
Posted 6 Dec 2022 There is no chance. If you stay within the EU and search for a job, it could be normally paid for 3 months, but that’s it. Here, you have the link in German: https://www.arbeitslosenselbsthilfe.org/alg-1-ausland/

Posted 6 Dec 2022 Sure. BTW- I have been to Uruguay 6 times for holiday, but in recent years it became more and more expensive, also since almost everything except beef is imported. It’s better if you go there, to bring a financial buffer. Emigration always costs money.
Posted 6 Dec 2022 Thanks a lot for the hint!, I'm actually from Argentina, and true.. things in Uruguay got expensive.. but I'm not crazy enough to return to Argentina to suffer with the crisis and violence there, hopefully the financial buffer is enough in Uruguay!
Posted 6 Dec 2022 So why did you get a German passport, if I may ask?
Posted 7 Dec 2022 12 hours ago, fraufruit said: So why did you get a German passport, if I may ask? sure, the thing is I have only argentinian citizenship and no chance to have an european one, so as soon as I got the chance, I got the german one.. not sure how long we are planning to live in uruguay, maybe one year, maybe 10 but at least I have the chance to go back to europe if necessary or if we want EDIT: I know it sounds strange but it's more difficult to understand such situation for people who have citizenships with not so in crisis kind of countries, like European or US, but in latin america, where we are used to live in crisis mode, as soon as we have the chance to have an European citizenship, we take the chance in a way of "you never know what is going to happen"
