If I correctly understood all kind of dual citizenship will be allowed weather you retaining in process of German naturalization or getting new citizenship abroad

 Yes.

The question is if your foreign government will give you your old citizenship back after the German law change.

That's the question indeed. Everyone should check that with their home country. In my case, it is not an issue..

if you don't urgently require German citizenship you could always (worst case) let your current application simply lapse and then apply if/when the new law is on the statute books. The only downside is a bit of wasted money and a (possibly significant) delay

The significant delay might be several years though.. Reouncing the original citizenship is at the end of the process, after one receives the Einbürgerungszusicherung. This document is valid for 2 years. You can have this document in hand, which means guaranteed citizenship, and then wait for some time to see how it goes with the new law. If the new law passes, there won't be any need to renounce the original citizenship, if not, you can choose to renounce your citizenship, and be a German citizen, or keep your citizenship and scrap the Einbürgerungszusicherung.

That sounds like a good idea to me too. Gives a bit of breathing space and time to monitor the situation.

Wir sind derzeit mitten in den Beratungen. Das Gesetz wird dann voraussichtlich vor dem Sommer in Kraft treten.

But which summer? ;-)

It is just speculation for now.

I was wondering about getting a third citizenship, Austria seems suitable, I already have a language certificate😉

😂

I read your post a while ago after putting in eye drops! I thought you had written " Australia seems suitable "😂

Mind  you, quite possibly the average Australian is easier to understand than the average Austrian!

Austria is much more restrictive than Germany, afaik.

Even though the current law allows German + EU nationality you still have to ask in advance about retaining your German nationality before you take on another EU citizenship. I know we are talking in context of the new law here but just in case anyone thinks they can already start collecting EU citizenships. I was explicitly warned about this pitfall when I was handed my German naturalisation certificate. The woman said you can have as many EU citizenships as you like but you must request to retain your German citizenship each time, beforehand, or you lose it automatically. I have no immediate intention of taking on a third citizenship but who knows, we might end up retiring to a country that makes it attractive for us (and allows it) so it's something worth bearing in mind. The new law will hopefully eliminate this requirement for all of us. It would appear to make little sense to retain it if multiple citizenship is at the core of the new law.

Does this new and upcoming dual citizenship law mention anything about an applicant having two non-EU citizenships and if they would have to get rid of one?

It still doesn't say anything, No law has been passed. Wait and see.

I knew it was too good to be true. The excuse was the current situation in Israel and the "Outrageous anti-Semitic sentiments in the country". F**k me sideways.

Just another example of why celebrating before the fact is futile

The reform is back in the parliamentary agenda, it is scheduled for the 1st of December.

I read it in the Parliamentary agenda. After it was removed at the beginning of the month it was planned to be brought back next year, potentially in February/April but someone must have pushed a lot because it is now literally next week.

P.S., I of course will be happy if it passes, but I am realistic and I understand there will be a lot of resistance. It was probably a mistake to put all the foreigners in the same bag and the proposal should have made differences between well stablished residents and asylum seekers, of course I am been selfish, but it would have been a good first step in the good direction. But who knows.

Includes everyone (that's why the AfD is against it and the CDU is not 100% in).

Wait a minute. So anyone could come here, apply for asylum and get a German passport?

Have I got something wrong? That doesn't make sense.

Of course there are requirements, you can't come here an apply for citizenship the next day. But "We are opening the doors for all those asylum seekers to become Germans and take control of the country" is been used for political gain in some spectrum and unfortunately those votes are needed.
