All things Tesla

Tesla just reported 2022 numbers. Record everything, beat estimates (slightly).

1.8 million cars conservative estimated for 2023. Could go up to 2M. Growing above 50% per year, as predicted.

https://tesla-cdn.thron.com/static/GZR0GS_TSLA_Q4_2022_Update_PVPJAG.pdf

Now following the webcast...

  • Demand in January very high, 2x production, already raised price of Model Y in US. My math points to 250-300k orders in January.
  • 400.000 FSD subscribers in US
  • Energy business with very strong growth and profit, more than automotive
  • Margins should remain high over 2023, over 20%
  • Musk says he's "super famous on Twitter", so that doesn't affect Tesla
  • Tesla insurance forces other insurers to offer better prices for Tesla owners

Does anyone drive Model Y SR+ 2022 model? I would like to know the real world range?

How much does it give in Winter and Summer? TSLA says 455 but I suspect if  drive 150+ it will just give 200kms.

At a plus of 30% the last few days, I guess you both bought wisely :)

Not really. I was looking at the opportunity to buy, but was travelling too much and I missed the chance

Does anyone use home charging for EV. Till now I used to charge in SVM or public charging.

We will move to our new apartment this year and builder has sent us some offer for charging setup from https://yourcharge.eu/#unsere-l%C3%B6sung

However, they have mentioned 8€ per month operational costs from Your charge. What is this recurring cost meant for? I am not clear. I will ask them also, but if anyone knows if we have to pay some recurring costs for wallbox in addition to electricity charges?

Also, I had few other questions:

1. Your charge is selling wallbox for 1571€ and 1000€ Installation charges. Tesla wallbox is just 500€. Not sure why so much difference in price, but I think I don't need any sophisticated or high speed charger for home. So I will check with builder if I can get a quote for TSLA wallbox

2. By default they are giving free sockets in parking. Is that enough to charge Model-Y overnight or do we need wallbox? How much range we can get from a normal socket?

We have #2, a normal socket in our underground garage space. The electricity we use is on our regular power bill for our flat on the 7th floor. I think we paid around € 1k for the installation. It is perfect for us as we don't use our car every day. Himself put a garden hose holder on the wall where he stores the cable so it is easy to plug in and unplug.

There are no monthly charges, of course.

@DanglingPointer

About #2.  A normal European 16A socket will give you 3.5 kWh and and EV consumes in average 22 kWh every 100 km.

I think most people nowadays can charge from a normal socket.  They don't even need to plug it every day.

Tesla Full Self-Driving data looks awful: We challenge Elon Musk to prove otherwise

https://electrek.co/2022/12/14/tesla-full-self-driving-data-awful-challenge-elon-musk-prove-otherwise/

This is an EV supporter club, not haters!!!!

It’s unfortunately the best data available because Tesla has gone out of its way to not release disengagement data that other companies developing self-driving systems are making available.

While Tesla doesn’t release the data, a group of Tesla FSD Beta testers has been self-reporting data for a while now, and Taylor Ogan of Snow Bull Capital has tracked it to see the progress.

Based on this again limited set of data, Tesla FSD Beta can only drive a few miles between disengagement, while other self-driving programs, like Waymo and Cruise, are reporting tens of thousands of miles between disengagement on average.

Very good review of Tesla cars, this guy praises what is good and criticizes what it is bad:

If it's any consolation, the build quality is usually better on the Berlin-built Model Y than the American-built one that mechanic was reviewing.

SWM increases prices for using there Car charging infrastructure. For people like me who are relying on public charging at least till end of this year, somehow I feel like we are loosing advantage of using an EV compared to ICE.

Alle Änderungen im Überblick:

Preisbestandteile (brutto) bis 31.03.2023
Monatlicher Grundpreis: 0,00 €
Ladekartenbestellung einmalig (Ersatzkarte/Zusatzkarte): 11,90 €

DC-Ladung pro kWh: 0,69 €

The SWM card is expiring the end of March so you can forget "einmalig". We won't buy another one - can use our ADAC card if we need to use their chargers which we probably won't.

Imagine if you had to pay 12 EUR (a year?) for a card to be able to use a gas station to buy benzine or diesel?  Imagine if every gas station chain had its own card.

We have a free card thru ADAC and another one from Ionity. As I said, we won't be buying another SWM card.

We have the Tesla app for emergencies so don't pay their monthly fee but higher fees for charging if needed.

It really depends on which plan you're on!

There are so many different charging cards out there - which is certainly confusing for consumers, especially those accustomed to simply filling up wherever fuel is the cheapest.

Then some cards have roaming rates, blocking fees (you get charged per minute if you park longer than a certain number of minutes at a charger), an initial charging fee plus the kW fee, etc).

What you need to do is to predict your usage pattern: X km city, Y km autobahn, where/when you're going to charge the most and which provider you want to use.

This is not quite true. My Cupra card - like the VW Elli card and many others - works at all chargers (except Tesla superchargers?).

There are also many free cards, but usually the rates aren't as good. But once again, it depends on your usage.

On the subject of charging (pun intended)... probably belongs in the VENT... thread though.

EV running low on the Autobahn.

Pull off at next services (1Km from Autobahn)

"My" charging station off limits due to building site.

Across the road - we're saved - a Tesla station !!

I can plug in (CCS) but can't find a card reader.

Search charger until I find the tiny QR - it tells me I need the APP.

OK, in the middle of nowhere in Germany, I download 127MB.

Installing...

Now create account, name, address, grandmother's horse' inside leg measurement etc.

It's taken some time - but I'm ready for the juice.

Button: Charge non Tesla, now it wants my payment address.

My German address as contact details is already in.

So is my credit card number.

But I can't get it to take a German address.

All fields except "country" are variable.

Just "Country" is stuck with somewhere called "US"

Well as I don't, never have and never will live there

I get to delete it all and slowly drive another 25 Km in the cold (no heater now batt so low)

Even deleting isn't simple.

After a few rounds of "do you really???" I get a "Your deletion has been noted. We'll contact yoiu when complete"

!?#$$???

So much for Tesla...

(Of course it's my fault for nearly running out. I knew I was driving to the near tank range limit

but the building site and Tesla errors nearly broke my day)

Imagine gas stations offered different prices depending on the card you had.

Himself just checked his Tesla app. He had to put Munich, Bavaria in to register. We have not tried to use it yet, though.

Seems like, when they accept your credit card, they would also be accepting your billing address for said card.

Weird.

Some fuelling cards are like this though. But having several charging cards can bring this situation to a whole new level of absurdity.

For my card all I need to keep track of is the price for AC, DC and Ionity. And blocking fees.
