Affordable towns/cities near Frankfurt Airport

9 posts in this topic

Hello. We are a famiy of 4 looking for affordable, family-friendly areas to live in near Frankfurt airport. We are currently thinking Groß-Gerau, Bergstraße, and Offenbach. What other places should we consider looking at?

We are even looking at areas outside Mainz but would this make sense with the traffic?

Thank you.

If you are using the S-bahn to get to the airport the S8/9 lines have direct links. I live in Mühlheim am main a small town between Hanau and and Offenbach which feels rural yet has all amenities schools, shops, bike riding routes along the Main swimmingpool and sports facilities.

You mentioned Hahn in your previous post. So this is now Frankfurt International? We live in the area east of Frankfurt approx 20-30 minutes drive to the airport. You also mentioned special needs education. I think it would be best to find what the options are in this area. Do you anticipate this move to be long term? I know a young child with special needs and he needed to travel over 2 hours a day to a special school. His parents ended up moving closer to the school.

I live in Breckenheim, which is a suburb of Wiesbaden.  It’s an awesome little village, maybe 20-25 minutes from Frankfurt’s airport.  I don’t know if I would call it “affordable”.  It would depend on what that means to you, but it’s definitely a very family friendly area.  Maybe Hofheim would be a good bet, too.

Hi Emkay.

I did. My husband is currently in the Hahn area, but the company is proposing a location transfer (staffing issues).

We are hoping for it to be long term. For his line of work, Frankfurt Airport airport has more options/stability. We want to purchase a house a couple of years down the line.

Mörfelden Walldorf is also reasonably priced. However, you would need a car. Other places which are nearby that are reasonably priced which have access to good public transport are Egelsbach, Arheilgen. Neu Isenburg, Dreieich, Langen. Griesheim Darmstadt is also ok price wise. Good luck with your search. I can recommend using immowelt.de or Immobilienscout24.de both are pretty useful when searching for property.

Erzhausen is also very nice. It has the feel of the countryside. Is quite beautiful.
