How come M33 is sold at Euro 269 on amazon while A33 is sold 209 euro ?? This is totally revered. I think she said the M series is thinner and lighter than the A series so I would assume more expensive.
Posted 20 Oct 2022 The Samsung M52 5G has just been reduced to 179€ at Amazon.de: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09FKKPTR9 This is the cheapest it has ever been: https://keepa.com/#!product/3-B09FKKPTR9
Posted 20 Oct 2022 That's a great price Panda! After a series of iPhones, starting with the 3GS, I moved to a Samsung Note 9 four years ago. It has everything I need & still works like the day I got it. Advantages (for me) over newer versions: Micro-SD slot Headphone jack Iris scanner Rear fingerprint sensor (I can unlock it as I pick it up) Ultra thin leather case - the newer models all have a chunky rubber bumper which makes the whole package much bulkier. I considered replacing it with the S22 Ultra but just couldn't do it in the end.

Posted 21 Oct 2022 I did indeed experience that with my Galaxy s5- the planned obsolescence was obvious. And infuriating! The Galaxy s8 and s8+ though, are both still as good as they were 4 years ago, I had the feeling that Samsung got called out somewhere between the s5 and the s8 and stopped doing that BS.
Posted 21 Oct 2022 Smartphone throttling, which is the technical term for intentionally making your device a bit slower, is a bit complicated and plenty of times unfair because the ones reporting these issues in the media are more interesting in creating controversy than in explaining the situation. First, most modern processors have to throttle, they do this when the processor is getting too hot. But they intentionally throttle as well in order to keep the battery life of the device, it does not make sense to run the processor at full capacity when everything you are doing at the moment is reading the screen. The big complain is when after one or two years the users start to notice the phone is slightly slower than when new. What happened after two years? The battery does not have the same capacity as as the beginning, it has now 80% or the capacity or less. So the throttling becomes more evident if the manufacturers' algorithms give priority to battery life. And when manufacturers try to explain this they get abuse back, like they can change the laws of physics or something. Most manufactures has been "caught" making their phones "sluggish" with the time, but most of the times there is a reasonable explanation, but they still had to apologize for that. In the other hand, what it is crap, at least for the user, is that of course they are not going to throttle the apps that measure performance, why? because no manufacturer does that, so you have to give all performance you have and more to the benchmarks apps. The problem is that at the end, this performance benchmarks are more or less useless, because they do not represent real life. What I found most nonsense is that IIRC Apple actually lost a court case related to this, because they throttle the iPhones when the battery is very degraded. They lost the case in the US and I think in UK as well. So nowadays they let he user decide in the settings somewhere in the "Battery Health" if they want to throttle or not. But if you do not throttle the battery will get more damage much faster and the phone will have random reboots.
Posted 21 Oct 2022 No, I'm not talking about throttling because the processor is too hot. I'm not talking about the battery life getting worse. I'm talking about the technical term planned obsolescence. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3316958/apple-and-samsung-fined-for-planned-obsolescence.html https://cellularnews.com/mobile-phone/planned-obsolescence/

Posted 24 Nov 2022 I currently pack a 5 year old Samsung S8. Battery is getting very very slow to charge. Like more than 8 hours I wanted not to get a Samsung again, but resolutely refuse Apple. Semi irrational Apple hatred. Samsung really seems the only choice. Now I have to choose between the s4 flip costing €1329 with 512G memory or s4 fold €1999 Agonizing choice. I don't have a tablet so the S4 fold is same dimensions as a phone but folds open as a tablet S4 flip is a half phone, and has to be opened to get a screen, but can be used as a phone without opening it. On Saturday I'll play with both and decide (maybe).
Posted 24 Nov 2022 I assume those are Finnish prices? The Fold 4 can be had for €1369 here in Germany. Almost worth a flight over. I wouldn't really consider the Fold 4 a tablet replacement either, unless you want a really small tablet. I'm waiting for the S23 Ultra in early spring. There are rumours that the awful Exynos chip is finally biting the dust.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 Well those are Finnish prices, but it's all EU However Saturn has: SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Fold 4 5G 256 GB Phantom Black Dual SIM for 1799. The 512G is €1919 so that is a saving of €80 What mean you the "awful Exynos chip"? I try to avoid awful chips.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 https://geizhals.de/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-4-f936b-ds-512gb-phantom-black-a2789098.html?hloc=de Mindfactory and Alternate are both reputable dealers that I've ordered plenty of expensive kit from in the past. For the last few years at least, Samsung has produced 2 versions of their flagship S phones. The US models got the cutting edge Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm while the EU versions got a Samsung chip (Exynos). The gap has narrowed with the latest versions but the Snapdragon has always been ahead when it comes to speed, battery life and even things like the camera processing. The Fold 4 uses the Snapdragon btw, so no worries there.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 Interesting prices but dreadful website. I got to the point where I had to choose a Versandart. Could not work out how to choose a Versandart. Anything I clocked just asked did I really want to leave the site. I do have a German address. It would cost me a bit to get it forwarded however. But I also want to pay with a credit card, or bank transfer. Because I want to buy from my company, not personally. And thanks for the Snapdragon explanation. We want Snappy
Posted 24 Nov 2022 Is it possible to just get a new battery? We have done that a few times over the years. Or order a used one. We do that now every 3 or 4 years - whenever needed. 1k for a phone? Never!
Posted 24 Nov 2022 The days of changing the battery on your phone or notebook are long over. It might be possible to get as shop to replace it. I need a 2nd phone anyway. I recently whinged to a bank IT dude about what happens if you lose your phone. Everything banking happens on the phone. He said you use your backup phone. I don't have a backup... Then you're an idiot Cruel but true.

Posted 24 Nov 2022 @HH_SailorThanks for posting that. Really interesting. And since I claim to be a green dude (fair trade is great, but not as important as green) it suits me. How do you like it? To be honest, except that the battery is dying, there's nothing about my 5 year old phone that makes it too old. It's just the battery, and to have a backup for when I lose/kill my main phone.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 The FP3 is fine. Camera is good, size and weight ok. Even useful as a telephone Battery life is a little weak after 2 yrs. I charge it overnight, every night. The FP4 has eSIM capabilities. Useful for me when travelling outside the EU. So I am waiting for my 3 to break sufficiently to warrant the upgrade to 4
