Posted 7 Oct 2022 I am looking to replace my Samsung A20e which has a crack across the screen (dropped on hard floor) but is still fully functional. No real issues with Samsung so would buy another, the A33 5G looks good to me and is in my price range, it also is waterproof which would be an advantage as I use an app. for bike riding navigation so it would be mounted on the handlebars of my e-bike from time to time, though to be honest I never had an issue in this respect with the non-waterproof A20e. Any comments or other suggestions would be most welcome.
Posted 7 Oct 2022 Maybe put it on price watch on Keepa.com and only buy it once the price is back at under 239€, i.e. 50€ cheaper? https://keepa.com/#!product/3-B09STY5C7R
Posted 7 Oct 2022 I started with the original Android phone- the Google G1. Then got a Samsung galaxy s2, then an s5, then an s8+ and got an s8 for my work phone. My s8+ was starting to show it's age, so after doing some research, I ended up getting an a52s 5g (Enterprise Edition) and couldn't be more happy with it. I honestly don't need an s-class phone. The only thing I miss is wireless charging, which can kinda be installed afterwards. I had an iPhone 8 for work and now have an iPhone 13 Pro... it forced me to use the face login. I use my thumbprint on the Samsung, which I prefer. The iPhone is nothing special, in my opinion. They both do what I need, but I would never in my life pay the kinda money they want for an iPhone. I got my a52s 5g on zoxs.de for like 275€ as B-Ware. It looks brand new to me. I use idealo.de to find the best prices.
Posted 11 Oct 2022 The Samsung M53 5G is available now as a Lightning Deal on Amazon.de, at 279€: https://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Smartphone-Infinity-Speicher-Dual-SIM/dp/B09WN2M9J1/ You need to be a Prime member to be allowed to buy at this price (and not at 399€), but you can just use the free 1 month Prime test period to buy it and to then cancel the Prime membership: The Lightning Price of 279€ is actually the lowest price this phone has ever been: https://keepa.com/#!product/3-B09WN2M9J1

Sorry, but I think you're mistaken. The Samsung M53 5G with 6 GB RAM is not available at MediaMarkt and Saturn, the next cheapest offer after the Amazon Lightning offer of 279€, is over 50€ more expensive, at 333.58€: https://geizhals.de/samsung-galaxy-m53-5g-m536b-dsn-gruen-a2712179.html All that is available at MediaMarkt/Saturn is the Samsung M53 5G version with 8 GB RAM, at 423.70€: https://www.saturn.de/de/search.html?query=samsung%20m53 https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/search.html?query=Samsung%20m53%205G

Posted 11 Oct 2022 Alright, looks like he was talking about the (smaller, only 6.4" instead of 6.7", but heavier and thicker) Samsung A33 5G: https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_samsung-galaxy-a33-128-gb-awesome-black-dual-sim-2794326.html @keith2011 Please see here for a side-by-side comparison between the M53 and A33 specs: https://geizhals.de/?cmp=2712158&cmp=2695535
Posted 11 Oct 2022 No, my interest is for an A33 with 128GB not an M53 with only 6GB!

Posted 11 Oct 2022 Bear in mind that with increasinginly larger camera image size, the storage capacity requirement must increase. I wouldn't buy a mid-level model with less than 256GB.

Plus at this point in my life, I still am not getting anywhere close to maxing out 128GB. You've got to be a HEAVY camera user, or taking lots of 4k video.
Posted 11 Oct 2022 Careful, from experience I don't support that approach, for the following reasons: The SD is much slower than internal memory The SD card usually uses the same slot as one of the SIM cards. I always use 2 SIM By default all apps install on internal memory. Not only that, system apps always use internal memory. Even other apps, that can be moved to the SD card, might go again to internal memory, i think after an update
Posted 12 Oct 2022 Well does take more effort to get it set up, thats true. As far as the speed, I suppose thats true, never really noticed any big difference. On mine it does use the 2nd SIM slot, but I assume the average person doesn't use 2 SIMs. Just saying, if on a budget, I would rather buy a better spec phone with 128GB than a worse phone with 256.

Posted 19 Oct 2022 Super deal, many thanks. At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth it does seem strange that a mobile phone company is offering such a good contract free deal. Are there any strings attached that I'm missing, I would not be using a sim supplied by Freenet?

This is a phone without a contract (see the "ohne Vertrag" at the top). --> it will work with any SIM, it does not have to be a Freenet SIM. In case you choose to collect it from a freenet store, to save the 4.95€ shipping, do not let the glib salesperson there sell you a contract ;-) Just do not click the 5€ per month insurance and do not add a contract: That Samsung A33 at 209€ is in the "without contract" section of their website: https://www.freenet-mobilfunk.de/handys-smartphones/handys-ohne-vertrag/?asc=price&dm=brand_samsung *************************************************************************************************************************************** If it had been a phone that they only sell "with a contract", it would have been in this section: https://www.freenet-mobilfunk.de/handys-smartphones/handys-mit-vertrag/?asc=price&dis=mind.%20128%20GB&dm=brand_samsung They sell the Samsung A33 for 1€ with a contract:

I indeed experienced that with all 3 of samsung phones. And i am not happy with it. I don't need high speed phone, because i am no that speedy and won't be speedier by the years.. Since it is designed to be slowing down .. I have decided to purchase a samsung phone that can be wipe to install linux os onto it.. to have a try. I have being wanting to do that for years, but each time i owned a new phone, due to warranty i reluctant to wipe factory os. But not anymore. i won't be controlled by high tech , i won't walk the path expected by them anymore. I rather less friendly interface than being force to do what they expected me to do.
