I recently visited a local flour mill with mill shop but only for their flour, nothing fancy, anyway they had a variety of milled grains on offer.  I was informed that all their grains are locally grown. So maybe if you are interested in locally grown milled grains you could do a google for your area.

I have Gerstengraupen grob (coarse) from Brueggen of Luebeck. Tasty and filling. You are advised to soak them overnight, I do not do that, but I think you should rinse them. Not sure why. Are they dirty?

We should eat more Graupen and less rice. I love rice too, mind😉

I found this page where you can look up the planting times for different grains (in German but not very difficult)

Aussaat - Beratung - KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA

Scroll down to Saattermin for the dates. For some, there is a winter and a summer variety though I am not sure what the difference is exactly. Probably yield.

According to Deutsches Reinheitsgebot, the only ingredients in beer may be hops, malt, yeast and water.

For Pils, it is malt made from barley, for Weizen, wheat.

Some people also eat wheat as a side dish. The one brand I know is Ebly but there are probably others.

This is very interesting. I would have agreed long ago. But I don't today.

There are zillions of stuff we use every day and most of us have no clue how they work. And yet nobody seems to mind.

Where do you draw the line?

Most fundamental than anything else is light. How many people know how light is created and propagates?

We as a society operates much better if we are highly specialized.

I follow by my grandpa's teaching, which: everyone have to be a farmer. Not that have to be occupational farmer, but be farmer. Because this is the blessed way of life that God have put man in.. be farmer in Garden of Eden.
So, i never bother how computer functions, how light bulb works (although i know), how a certain chemical works... but I have to know how to grow my own food and how the food i eat comes about, else i won't eat it (especial those highly processed food that have ingredient that we don't know of ).

if you ask me where to draw the  line, This above is where i draw my line.. I have to know the food that i eat.

Pls don't bother by the quote below,, somehow it just keeps popping up more quote which i didn't ask for .

I hav being eating beans, vege, pumpkin, leafy, potato gourds in place of rice for sometime.. i don't think we need to eat a rice or wheat pasta... as main meal.. as long as the meal are balance , it is good.. My wife as eating rice.. no rice means no meal.. but now, she is adopting my method of eating just fine.
