Posted 8 Sep 2022 Yes, it doesn't sound good. I'm not a monarchist but I feel surprisingly sad.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 I'm not from the UK but am a monarchist. It feels different this time. The doctors have never been concerned before. She's the only (British) Queen I've known. And she is less than 2 years from smashing Louis IV 72 years and 110 days. She is 70 years 214 days.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 Just now, MadAxeMurderer said: The doctors have never been concerned before. I beg to differ. They have advised her to "rest" many times. This time, I think it is worse, though. When family is going to be at her bedside, she must be bedridden. Definitely an end of an era.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 Ok, who can actually sing the first verse of the National Anthem without looking at the hymnal ? And please, do remember to do it standing. Actually I am a bit concerned for Charles because the Church gang are not going to want him. Camillagate.

But hey. I am not a big royal fan. She is my mother's age (though ma died a while ago). And there are worse people you could have as a national figure. Really. If the palace was sold off you would probably get a rich Russian or Saudi buying it. Or Trump.

Posted 8 Sep 2022 OK. Harry is now reported to be travelling alone to Balmoral. Hopefully Meghan can do the charity event alone.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 I am not a big royal fan, but I wish everybody to live a happy and long life. I hated the overblown Diana thing. It was mad. My father died the same week and I ended up having to comfort people who were beside themselves because of her death. They did not even know her. It was a mad, mad time. Like young girls screaming at a Beatles concert, or over Elvis. It distracted for the actual sadness of her death, and the real empathy that you could have with her relatives.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 If it turns out they were all just wearing black suits and ties, and black fonts, and she is alive it is mad. It is just awful. Like here waking up and seeing everyone dressed in black. Like that horrible joke about a guy waking up after being really ill, and smells wonderful smell of cakes being baked. And he goes downstairs and his wife tells him to fuck off, they are for the funeral.

To my eternal shame ( or not ), I was visiting my mum in England and she was making me egg and bacon for breakfast and my Auntie Alwyn knocked on the door and came in and said " Diana's dead." I actually asked: " who?".. I did. Then I took the train from Basildon to Fenchurch Street and was amazed at the sombre atmosphere. I had never followed Royal stories. I heard a bloke on the street on the telly at some stage doing an interview and remember him saying: " I never understood why the Argentines loved Eva Peron so much. The feelings out there. This is our equivalent." I am not much of a Monarchist- but not much of a Republican, either. Arguments pro and con for a constitutional Monarchy. It does feel a bit strange if Queen Elizabeth dies now. I am 70 and don't know of anyone else who could have been Head of State so long. Whether monarchists or not, many people will agree she has done her duties well. A bit ironical- Brazil is this week celebrating its 200th year of independence because the then Portuguese Pretender to the throne , Dom Pedro , buggered off from Portugal after Napoleon's mob marched into Portugal. So he did a runner, loved the colony so much and declared Brazil independent. ( I forget the real reasons!)😂 Edit: I am old enough to remember the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the TV programme we were watching as a family was interrupted for the announcement. I think Coronation Street. Some complained.

I remember the radio playing nothing but sombre music for days and you couldn't turn on the TV for seeing the same story on endless repeat. Drove me mad. Makes me glad I'm not in the UK, although German TV seems to be providing blanket coverage. I admit the first thing I thought when I saw the news 15 mins ago on TV was it was the shock of meeting Liz Truss that did it. That's probably in bad taste.
Posted 8 Sep 2022 The poor old lady had the task of meeting Johnson AND Truss within 30 minutes of each other. P.S. Bad taste is subjective.
