Posted 27 Aug 2022 I want to purchase travel insurance for year end flight , due to all these global flight restriction law ever changing due to covid. Anybody can recommend a good "travel insurance" ? Also can share with me tips of travel insurance ? How to claim (in case something happened)... etc. Thx
Posted 27 Aug 2022 Debeka.de. They are dirt cheap and when I had an issue they paid - no questions asked. That was about 10 years ago though.
Posted 27 Aug 2022 Many insurers also now include cover for interruption of travel plans because of State-enforced Covid measures ( or catching Covid itself ) but check carefully the maximum amount of days from booking your flight to the flight itself! Otherwise, it may be excluded!
Posted 28 Aug 2022 If you apply for a travel insurance, you can select the options relevant to you, e.g. luggage, legal assistance, health care, risky sports (diving, jumping from a helicopter with your skis on) etc.

I did a quick browse on the website: https://www.debeka.de/reiseversicherungsantrag/form/rechner_berechnung.xhtml It calculated 6.50euro per month. How does it work ? I pay per month 6.50 during my 3 months trip or whole year ? ... how long does it take to terminate after my trip back germany ? and When i purchase the flight insurance does it comes into effective immediately ? Since you have the experience already, can you tell me some.. Thanks.

I will need to read through and want recommendation of insurance, so in case i need to claim it , i won't find that i am illegible for any of my claim. So I´m not familiar with the contract you´re looking at (which seems to include covid-related risks). The contract I had covered the whole family for (I believe € 11.50/year) for one year and for trips (however many) of up to 6 weeks. It auto-renewed unless terminated with 3 months notice.
Posted 30 Aug 2022 I have been using https://onlineabschluss.allianz-reiseversicherung.de/B2C/TRAVEL/DE_NDBX/step-2 start https://onlineabschluss.allianz-reiseversicherung.de/B2C/TRAVEL/DE_NDBX/step-1 you can configure it to what you want, the insurance price is not that much more than for debeka and is very highly rated. Also if you want you can have it all in English or German

Thx I have a permanent insurance from ERGO for more than a decade, so it‘s also applicable if you just go away for a couple of days. I never claimed anything so far. A claim is always handled on a case by case situation, so there are no general rules for eligibility. Insurance doesn‘t work like that.
Posted 30 Aug 2022 I think a telephone call to our resident experts ( @john g. @Starshollow ) may help here. What do you expect from "travel insurance"? replacement in case of loss/damage to baggage - may be already on your house contents insurance (read your policy) quick replacement: if your bags disappear on the outward journey, as you'll need clothes immediately health cover - possibly also on your current policy but probably not if travel out of EU. is repatriation included? USA travel definately need to mention this to travel health insurance people. Cancellation insurance to pay for the flights / hotel accommodation ? 3rd party (if you damage someone when abroad) ? I drive a boat abroad and need cover for that (it's not mine and replacement costs are in the $millions) I'm not an insurance professional so all my comments are heresay. I ended up getting europ-assistance to cover me last year (not for the boat though) Haven't had a claim yet - so can't comment about that.

I think europ-assistance (https://schengen.europ-assistance.com/en) is only for travel within Europe ? Schengen Coverage & Schengen Plus Coverage However, the website says: "We remind you that epidemics and/or infectious diseases such as CoVid 19 are excluded from our policies." @HH_Sailor My whole purpose is to protect me from suddenly flight ban due to pandemic, so, this insurance won't be applicable to me. I need the protection, because i am purchasing ticket a 3 months before i travel. Things changes quickly these days.
Posted 31 Aug 2022 Ho hum. Then lose the Schengen from the URL and use de instead of com. That way you get worldwide cover (well, 200 countries) and Stiftung Warentest's test winner https://www.europ-assistance.de

Since young, I have always heard someone gone bankrupt due to credit card overused unknowingly.. or being stolen...etc.. I don't like the idea of using "virtual money" to pay for something and then payback on time... So, no, I don't own a credit card. :p) never like the idea of having one. Debit card is good enough for me..
