 Had some hassle which affected me at some stage in london in the  80s de door opening. and I left it.  " Sexust " bla bla. 

I have since settled down. I open doors for everyone- guess what? Some are either polite/ friendly and thank you. Some feel entitled and nothing. Some are happy regardless of gender, some are rude.

I never get a thank you for holding doors open in Germany, but I just can't not do it cos I'm too bloody English. And I'm also too English to say anything about it.

We as humans can sometimes complicate things! Open the bloody door out of courtesy for everyone. And see the reactions. You get all types/- ignore. Sometimes because eg older people can't see  , sometimes they are on their SmartPhones, sometimes they are just rude, and sometimes- whatever,

And sometimes it is a city thing- millions of strangers.

 

And sometimes people say thank you. Because they are understanding that you are being thoughtful.

This comes natural to many of us, not only English. We also learned good manners. I get Dankes quite often.

Interesting, but all that it means is that the moderator who changed it back in 2007 has now left the site. I'm sure there are a few who have gone since then, I mean it was 16 years ago.
