Is this 49 euro ticket a contract only job? Or can I just get it from a ticket machine? Like the wonderful 9 euro offer a while back?

Subscription, but monthly cancelable.  Which, if you plan a few trips, is still very good value, even if you not a commuter.  BTW in BW you can take your bike on regional trains without a ticket, as long as outside commuting hours.

Should be for all local trains and buses, like the 9€ ticket. Starting date could be April 1, not sure if that signifies anything😉

I bet it will NOT be only available by smartphone, lots of people including me like to leave their device at home.

For many people 49€ is not particularly attractive compared to what they are paying now. Especially if you want to use the RB24, that "service" ends at Bernau through December 2023.

Is the ticket for all Germany or just the Berlin region?

All of Germany.  There were concerns it was only going to be available on phones but they have clarified there will be an alternative, possibly a card.    A bit of a hassle to do the subscription thing and then cancel the same month, but it is doable,

What is the latets on this 9 euro Berlin ticket? Do I need additional documentation? What are the catches?

There is no 9 EUR ticket anymore since long ago.   However Berlin has been offering a 29 EUR ticket for a while and it was extended until April 2023.  However you can't buy it month to month, it is available only under subscription but you can cancel it any time.  And you have to buy it before hand, the latest the 20th of the previous month.  i.e. you can't buy right now the one for February, and if you want it for March you have to subscribe the latest on the 20th of this month.

Krieg,

I thought they changed the subscription rules where if you cancel the subscription before the full year, you have to pay the regular (non-subscription) monthly rate for the month in which you cancel?

Is it possible to just sign up for one month and then cancel?

Outside of Berlin the ticket will cost 588€ a year to start. As described above, unsubscribing may be tedious. But NOBODY KNOWS yet what the conditions for subscribing will be, nobody knows!

Best to fix your life to avoid traveling as much as possible😕

Fietsrad,

I was asking about the Berlin 29 Euro ticket subscription.  Thanks.
