What Covid selftests can be used for reentry into Germany

9 posts in this topic

I am an English/Deutsch dual national living in Germany and am planning a short trip (4 days) to England with my wife, a German national, next week. We are both 3x covid-vaccinated and will both travel using German passports to avoid getting split up at the airport. We are flying with Lufthansa who have just sent me a confusing email, full of no longer valid links to RKI pages etc. and the following (without any links):

Quote

If you click on the link below that notice which reads "Verifizierten Schnelltest kaufen" you are sent to a page for booking a test at the airport, not for selftest-kits.

So what do we actually need to re-enter Germany after four days away? I have been told that the self-tests from the chemist are accepted. Lufthansa have been most unhelpful in answering our questions.

You do self tests at home. The schnell tests at the Apotheke or anywhere else are approved by the airlines. They are free all over. Don't do it at the airport unless you want to pay and have free time.

I just traveled from the U.S. over Heathrow and didn't need any test but I didn't stay in the UK. They weren't asking for any tests at passport control at Heathrow where many people were not coming from the US.

While flying on BA from Heathrow yesterday (I had paid for direct flight from US to Munich. Another story.), they gave us a form to fill out on the plane. I heard a couple of people refusing to fill it out. It was called Bundesanzeiger (Promulgation) and asked for a lot of personal info. I thought WTF, Germany already has all of my personal info and started filling it out. A few minutes later they announced that it was no longer necessary to fill out this form.

I said loudly, "Go Brexit!"

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will pack a couple of German Schnelltests just to be sure and I will let you know how I get on.

The Lufthansa email is really out of date and confusing, they need to update it or stop sending it automatically. And it would be nice if they answered their customer service hotline now and again.

Ok, I'm back I Germany. I needed to neither show proof of vaccination nor a test to enter England. When I checked in online for my Lufthansa flight back to Munich I had to upload the QR code from my vacc. certificate, luckily I took a paper copy with me which made it easy to upload it from the phone I was using to check-in.

Much the same for me on BA (LHR Term 5:angry:) but I did not bother with an online check in on the return and they just gave my mobile with the Covidpass app a cursory glance at the check in desk.
